It Ends With Us actress Blake Lively has been swept in a web of controversies and backlash since her appearance in the movie. While the actress is known for her bold stance and uncensored opinions, her controversial statements are sometimes too hard for her fans to stomach.

Recently, she was making headlines again after she accused her co-star Justin Baldoni with a $250 million lawsuit for s*xually abusing her while filming Coleen Hoover's adaptation. While the actor has denied all such allegations, the truth about the situation is yet to emerge.

Amidst all this, Lively's positive comments on filmmaker Woody Allen are emerging again, which might be problematic for the actress' case. Blake Lively worked with Allen on his 2016 romantic flick Café Society.

Lively commented on the amazing experience she had on set with Allen and how he is 'empowering to women'. But her comments did not sit right with her fans because of s*xual abuse allegations against Allen by his former partner.

Read on to why Lively faced backlash for her comments on Allen.

What did Blake Lively comment about working with filmmaker Woody Allen?

In an interview with Hamptons Magazine, Blake Lively talked about her wonderful experience working with filmmaker Woody Allen and called him 'empowering to women', a remark that was not received well by Lively's fans,

“His dialogue is so specific, and it’s speaking in a 1930s dialect and [with period] references, so it’s intimidating to think, Oh, let me just improvise there and hope that my words blend seamlessly alongside Woody Allen’s...Which they clearly wouldn’t and don’t. But he’s very empowering.”

She added:

“He also is really encouraging as to why he cast you. He’ll say, ‘Say the dialogue that’s written, and then you can improvise for a while.’”

In light of her comments and visible appreciation of the filmmaker, Vanity Fair asked Lively to comment on the s*xual abuse allegations against him at the Cannes International Film Festival in May 2013, to which the Gossip Girl actress denied not knowing about, and thus 'dangerous' to comment on.

Why did fans backlash Blake Lively over her comments on Woody Allen?

While Blake Lively is a powerful feminist icon to her fans, her positive and appreciative comments about Allen did not sit right with fans because of the filmmaker's alleged s*xual abuse allegations.

Back in 1992, Allen was accused by his then-partner Mia Farrow of allegedly s*xually abusing his adoptive daughter Dylan Farrow, then aged 7. After an extensive investigation by the Child Sexual Abuse Clinic of Yale-New Haven Hospital in March 1993, it was found that she was not abused.

However, she reinstated those allegations against her adoptive father in an open letter published in the New York Times, which Allen denied.

In 1997, Allen went on to marry Soon-Yi Previn, one of his adoptive daughters, who was still in her early 20s when the Manhattan director married her.

After Blake Lively's comments on Allen, Dylan's brother, Ronan Farrow, also wrote a guest column in The Hollywood Reporter extending his support for his sister and backlashing Lively.
