Black Doves is a gripping spy thriller full of twists, secrets, and revenge. Season 1 introduces us to a complex web of characters and politics, where the murder of the Chinese ambassador has set off a chain of events that involves governments, criminal organizations, and personal vendettas.

Helen's past and her connection to Sam
Helen’s journey is intertwined with Sam, a former triggerman who worked for a powerful woman named Mrs. Reed (Sarah Lancashire). Over the years, Helen and Sam shared a deep history. Helen once saved Sam’s boyfriend, Michael (Omari Douglas), from a dangerous situation.
Sam’s work for Reed included a tragic mission where he was forced to kill his own father, a job that changed him forever. When he’s asked to take down a child during one mission, Sam hesitates, and that decision leads to a series of dangerous consequences.
Fast forward to the present, Helen is now in a relationship with Wallace (Andrew Koji), who is advancing politically. She’s pregnant, but her feelings for Wallace aren’t strong, which causes her to rethink her involvement with the Black Doves.
Helen wants to leave this life behind, but Reed makes it clear that her departure isn’t that simple. If Helen wants to help Sam after he’s attacked, she must remain useful to the Black Doves.
At the beginning of the first episode, Helen’s secret life unravels. She’s having an affair with Jason (Andrew Koji), but tragedy strikes when he and two other people are killed.
It turns out one of the victims was connected to the missing Chinese ambassador’s daughter, Kai-Ming (Isabella Wei). As Helen investigates, she uncovers more questions than answers. Who is behind these murders? And how is the ambassador’s death connected?
Amid the chaos, Reed contacts Sam, who has been away for eight years. She needs him back to help Helen track down the people responsible for the recent murders.
Helen and Sam’s paths cross when they search for answers about the mysterious assassin who killed Jason. When two more assassins try to kill Helen, Sam steps in to save her, and their dangerous journey picks up steam.
As the investigation unfolds, it becomes clear that the ambassador’s death is part of a much larger conspiracy involving a notorious crime family, the Clarks. The story grows even more complicated when it’s revealed that Sam and Helen are being manipulated by forces beyond their control.
Sam must confront Hector Newman (Luther Ford), a powerful figure in the crime world, and the truth behind the ambassador’s death.
The Clark family, particularly Alex Clark (Tracey Ullman) and her son, Trent—turn out to be key players in the plot. They are tied to the crime family and have been involved in several dark dealings, including the assassination of the Chinese ambassador.
The CIA’s Cole Atwood reveals that the Clarks are involved in the ambassador’s murder, but it’s Trent, not Cole, who is the real killer. Helen and Sam must work together to bring him down.
The aftermath
Despite all the deaths, Helen and Sam make it out alive, though their future remains uncertain. The season ends with Helen using the footage of the ambassador’s murder as leverage against Trent Clark and his family. Meanwhile, Reed’s betrayal of Helen comes to light when she reveals that Helen was being set up all along.
Jason, who was once close to Helen, turns out to be an MI5 agent tasked with investigating her. He risked his life to protect her, even though he was supposed to expose her.
By the end of the season, Sam and Michael’s relationship is in a better place despite the chaos that has surrounded them. Sam has made peace with his past and is offered a job by Hector, a dangerous criminal who still sees potential in him. Sam must decide whether to join Hector and continue down this dark path or live a more peaceful life with Michael.
Helen, meanwhile, is back in family life with Wallace, who is now a rising political figure. However, her work with the Black Doves isn’t over. She still sells secrets to the highest bidder, and her loyalty is always in question. As the season concludes, Helen’s future is up in the air, but one thing is clear: she’s not done with the dangerous world of espionage just yet.
Season 2 is already confirmed, and fans are eager to see what happens next. The fallout from the murders of the Clarks is sure to have serious consequences for Helen and Sam. Additionally, Sam’s new alliance with Hector is bound to create more conflict, and the mysterious phone call at the end of Season 1 hints that there are still more secrets to uncover.
