Netflix has recently announced its new show Black Doves. The show will be a spy series starring Keira Knightley. The series will be available on Netflix by the end of this year. It is being created by Joe Barton.

Set against the backdrop of London at Christmas, the series already has a second season in the bag. Keira Knightley stars as Helen Webb, a bright, very down-to-earth wife, and mother who is also a dedicated professional spy, passing on her politician husband's secrets to the shadowy organization known as the Black Doves for 10 years.

This six-part espionage thriller, starring Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw as an unlikely pair of spymasters and assassins, brings high-stakes global intrigue, British wit, knife fights, and quick actions to the viewer's screen.

Knightley plays witty, earthy, devoted wife and mother - and professional spy - Helen Webb, who has spent ten years sharing her politician husband's secrets with the mysterious organization she works for: the Black Doves. And, when a man she secretly loves is murdered, her spymaster, the elusive Reed, calls in Helen's old friend to protect her.

Life has subtly changed for champagne-swilling, sophisticated assassin Sam Young (Ben Whishaw) since a botched job went disastrously wrong. Back home in London, he finds that much of the city has moved on without him. His job is to protect Helen while she investigates who killed Jason and why.

Together they embark on a mission that will lead them to uncover a vast, interconnected conspiracy that leads them to London's underworld, a looming geopolitical crisis, and the cost of their moral choices.

Black Doves is created by Joe Barton. Alex Gabassi and Lisa Gunning are the directors. Harry Munday is the producer of the show. Speaking to Netflix in October 2023 Barton said:

“I started writing the scripts for this show over last year’s Christmas holidays, fueled by turkey sandwiches and discarded bottles of cream liquor.”

He further expressed his excitement by saying;

“To be now going into production with a cast and crew full of people whose work I admire so much is unbelievably exciting, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to get to see this show come to life.”

Fans can stream the series on Netflix once released.
