Famous western drama Billy The Kid is confirmed to return for a final yee-haw with Season 3 as TV Line revealed. Season 2 Part 2 of the series ended on June 23, 2024. Since then, fans have patiently awaited news of a renewal, especially after the cliffhangers from the previous season.
After much time, fans of the drama have finally received some good news about the upcoming final season. Showrunner Michael Hirst announced the renewal via a statement saying:
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to write the third and final season of Billy The Kid and bring this compelling saga to a close.”
Hirst’s announcement comes after Season 2 Part 2 of the series ranks high in the top 3 most-watched OG shows - a historic achievement per the publication. Billy The Kid is primarily set in the age when cowboys were rampant and the outlaws ruled the Wild West.
While there are many renditions of this epic character, the MGM+ version has left an unforgettable impression. Set in the 1800s, the series is centered around Billy The Kid’s journey from being a young rebellious outlaw to his big part in the Lincoln War.

The renewal for Billy The Kid was recently announced on October 1, 2024, due to which details about a release remain under speculation and unconfirmed. However, per the publication, we could expect to see the Western drama return sometime next year in 2025.
Since the episodes are comparatively short, yet profound, filming usually concludes within three to four months or sometimes far less. Both parts of Season 2 were previously impacted due to the writers' strike in 2023.
Season 2 Part 1 was filmed between May - July 2023, whereas, the next part was filmed post-strike between December and January. The production team understands how to deliver in a short period and the same might follow suit for Season 3.
What will Season 3 of Billy The Kid be about?
Season 3 of Billy The Kid will definitely start with a banger, especially after the ending of Season 2 Part 2’s bombshell ending. Naturally, the show will pick up from where it left off - with Billy finding himself in cahoots with Sheriff Pat.

“Billy will fight like hell to try to finally find the justice that has long eluded him, even if it means he’ll die trying.”

Season 2 saw the death of John Tunstall (played by Linus Roache), so he won’t be appearing in Season 3.
