CBS recently made it official that The Neighborhood won't be returning for a ninth season. The Neighborhood is currently airing its seventh season and it has now been confirmed by the network that the eighth season of the show will be its final one.
Responding to this news, The Neighborhood star Beth Behrs took to her Instagram to share her gratitude for giving her character a closure in terms of the end of the show. She added that this is unlike her experience with another show, 2 Broke Girls, wherein the show was abruptly cancelled.
Beth Behrs posted:
"Most of my 20s were on #2BrokeGirls, almost allof my 30s were on #TheNeighborhood and I'll usher in my 40s as we end our story. @katdenningsss and I never got a goodbye or an end to our #2BrokeGirls story, and I'm just so grateful to @cbstv for a chance to say goodbye to GEMMA the right way. These last 7 years with my @theneighborhood family has been some of the most memorable of my life. We made it through Covid, strikes, elections... and came out stronger. Forever grateful to our entire cast and crew- here's to the best season yet! #SEASON8 let's gooooo"
Here's everything that we know.
The eighth and final season of The Neighborhood
CBS recently came forward with the bittersweet revelation that they won't be continuing the show beyond its upcoming eighth season. Although there isn't an official release date yet, it is expected that the final season of the show will hit the screens sometime in 2025-2026. The seventh season of the show is currently airing new episodes and has been returning 6.4 million viewers across live television and all streaming platforms combined, according to a report by Variety magazine.
Despite the steady performance of the show, CBS decided to bring it to a close owing to its high production cost, as per some sources. The President of CBS Entertainment, Amy Reisenbach mentioned in a statement:
"The brilliant cast and creative team at ‘The Neighborhood’ led by the incomparable Cedric the Entertainer have brought levity, laughter and poignant storylines to Monday nights for seven incredible seasons. The Neighborhood’ is a strong ratings performer for CBS and one of the top comedies on TV. We believe the show’s loyal fans deserve a proper farewell season full of the trademark humor and heartfelt moments that are synonymous with the series."
What about the spinoff show based on The Neighborhood?
It was previously reported a spinoff based on the CBS show featuring Sheaun McKinney and Marcel Spears was in the developmental stage at CBS. The plot of the spinoff follows the characters of Malcolm and Marty Butler, who decide that they no longer wish to live with their parents and relocate from Pasadena to Venice Beach.
There is no official confirmation whether the spin-off has been greenlit by CBS. We can only hope that news in this direction would be made available soon.
