In Netflix's thriller Behind Her Eyes, the mystery about who David (played by Tom Bateman) truly ends up marrying takes a complicated dark turn. David believes he marries Louise (played by British actress Simona Brown) by the series' end.

But, that is quite far from the truth. The lady he marries is not who he thinks she is. To begin with, Rob (Robert Aramayo) inhabits the body of Louise as he is a friend of Adele (Eve Hewson), who turns out to be malevolent with supernatural skills to swap bodies through astral projection.

When David walks down the aisle, he actually marries Rob, who has assumed the body of Louise. Let's then take a look at the big questions over the shocking events of Behind Her Eyes that led to this fraud of a wedding.

Eventually, David marries the woman he believes to be Louise, only to discover that it is the case that Louise's body has become a vessel for Rob's soul. This forms one of the biggest shocks that the series has come out with, and it implies that Rob has been in love with David all along.

This is because Rob had, in reality, swapped bodies with Adele as she explained to him the art of moving between bodies in the astral plane. She and Rob were intimate friends when both of them were in rehab. But, friendship was only a good cover-up for the feelings Rob harbored over David.

Rob wanted a life with David, whom he loved since their first meeting. Love for David made him murder Adele after he had switched bodies with her. In the scenario where David meets Louise, Rob inside Adele's body manages to carry on his sinister plan further.

He manipulates Louise to make friends with the couple, Adele and David, with the idea to add spice to his sinister plans. At the series' end, Rob does succeed in switching bodies with Louise and, in the act kills her soul, so David marries him in Louise's body.

Yes, Rob had deep, obsessive feelings for David. While viewing the show, all of Rob's actions proved to not only be fascinated with Adele's wealth and lifestyle, but also obsessed with David from the very moment he met Adele.

To get close to David, Rob manipulates Adele and eventually uses the supernatural ability of astral projection to take over Adele's body. This enabled Rob to spend a lifetime with David by his side, guilt-ridden over Adele's "emotional instability."

The undercurrent driving Rob's motive was his love for David. He was so obsessed that he was willing to kill not one, but two people. Even when inhabiting the body of Adele, he ensured he saw private moments with Adele and David.

Toward the end, he aimed to marry David, by this time having taken over Louise's life fully, in her body.

What is the twist ending in Behind Her Eyes?

The twist at the end of Behind Her Eyes is perhaps the most widely discussed aspect of the series. The viewer shockingly learns that Adele has been Rob all along.

It turned out that the death arranged by Rob with the help of astral projection (a technique through which a person's soul can leave their physical body) was Adele's. Years ago, Rob had made Adele agree to an exchange of bodies with him.

Following the exchange, he injected heroin in her, which he had been accumulating in his body in lethal amounts. He left her to die in a well on Behind Her Eyes. He then took up the life of Adele and stayed beside David for years.

In the final episode, Rob uses this same technique for the last time with Louise. When Adele (Rob) sets the house on fire, Louise, desperate to save her, projects her astral self into the body of Adele.

Rob capitalizes on this circumstance to take Louise's body and in the form of Adele's body, kill her with an overdose. David is left to marry who he believes is Louise, but instead, he marries in actuality, Rob, who still reeks of an unhealthy obsession with David.

The final episode saw the house of Adele gutted by a fire set by Rob, still in Adele's body. Desperate with no other alternative, Rob (Adele) sets fire to the house knowing Louise would rush to save her.

This was a calculated move by Rob to position Louise in a spot from where he could carry out his planned body swap.

He lit the fire and administered heroin into the body of Adele, thereby bringing about a situation where he would have the body of Louise while making sure that the soul of Louise within Adele's body would die.

Is Louise still alive in Behind Her Eyes?

No, Louise is not alive by the end of Behind Her Eyes. When Rob manages to switch bodies with Louise, her soul is stuck inside the body of a doped-up Adele who is dying from a drug overdose.

Thus, in this deadlocked state, Louise cannot escape, and she dies inside the body of Adele, and the way is free for Rob to stay inside Louise's body. This leaves David unaware of the truth and also brings an end to Louise's existence.

Rising actress Eve Hewson, who played Adele's character, has been working steadily since her Behind Her Eyes days, and was last seen in The Perfect Couple.
