Beef Season 2: Cast, plot, release date and everything we know about the Netflix show

Lee Sung Jin, the director of the American comedy-drama television Beef has hinted that the Netflix original series is coming back for Season 2. Produced by A24 after taking inspiration from Lee’s real-life incident where he had a road rage encounter with a middle-aged man.

The series premiered on Netflix with its ten episodes on April 6, 2023.

The show was confirmed for season 2 on February 26th, 2024. According to Lee Sung Jin, the series could be an anthology season, which means we'll have to say goodbye to the current cast.

The show quickly gained popularity among its viewers, becoming one of the best shows produced in 2023. To mention some of its achievements among its numerous awards, the show has taken home eight Primetime Emmy Awards and The Best Limited Series award at the Golden Globes held in 2024.

The show has a mix of humor, suspense, and grief. It's about Danny Cho and Amy Lau, two people who meet after a road rage incident. They develop a complicated relationship as they deal with each other.

Season 1 of the show features Steven Yeun, Ali Wong, Joseph Lee, Young Mazino, David Choe, Patti Yasutake, and many more.


What might happen in Beef Season 2?

At the moment, it is difficult to predict what exactly will happen next. However, according to Jin's interview with Deadline, he has expressed his desire to explore the series further, giving Beef a completely new perspective by introducing new characters each season.

According to numerous reports surfacing online as per this writing, what we know of this upcoming season is that season 2 will follow a story of two feuding couples.

During an interview at the Golden Globes Jin stated,

“We always pitched the season to buyers as an anthology series. There was always going to be new characters. Whether it stays limited or turns as an anthology or we continue existing, that’s really up to Netflix. But whatever they decide, I’m definitely ready,”

Who can we see as the cast of season 2?

There's no official word on the cast for season 2 yet. However, the producers of the show wanted to cast Jake Gyllenhaal along with Anne Hathaway. However, as per Deadline, they are no longer in the running.

In a follow-up report by Deadline, show producers are looking at Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan in the cast for season 2.

The names mentioned so far are Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny. Charles impressed many with his performance in the Netflix movie May December. Cailee Spaeny, on the other hand, got rave reviews for her role in Priscilla.


When can we expect Beef Season 2 to come out?

The second season of the series is still in production. According to Deadline, filming of season 2 would begin somewhere around early fall of 2024, which means that fans can expect season 2 of Beef to premiere on the screens somewhere around 2025.

Season 1 of the series has received a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics say it's insightful because it explores anger in a way that's specific to the culture, and it helps viewers feel more at peace with themselves.

If fans prefer watching an off-beat comedy that includes strong characters with dramatic clashes then Beef is a must-watch.
