The dark comedy series on Apple TV+, Bad Sisters Season 2 premiered on November 13, 2024, and concluded with its eighth and final episode, Cliff Hanger, on December 25, 2024.

Grace’s death in Season 2 seemed straightforward with a tragic car crash but the finale revealed the heartbreaking events leading up to her final moments. After confiding in Ian about killing her abusive ex-husband John Paul, Grace believed she had found someone who understood her trauma.

Instead, Ian’s reaction was one of disgust, and he quickly revealed his true nature. Posing as a bereavement group member, Ian had targeted Grace for financial gain, exploiting her vulnerability and inheritance.

In a key flashback, Grace discovered Ian’s second life. She found a secret phone in their bathroom and contacted the mysterious number, learning that Ian’s real name was Cormac Sweeney and that he had a wife and children.

Shaken by the betrayal, Grace confronted Ian, who demanded money in exchange for keeping her secret about John Paul’s murder. Refusing to back down, Grace hid the cash she had withdrawn and stood up to Ian at a bar, telling him to stay away from her family.

On her way home, the emotional toll of the confrontation hit Grace hard. Distracted and panicked, she searched for a lost earring her daughter had gifted her as a wedding present. The moment of maternal attachment and anxiety led to her fatal crash. Though an accident, her death was indirectly caused by Ian’s manipulation and threats.

Grace’s journey showed her strength as she fought to reclaim her life after years of abuse. But her untimely death underlined how deeply the scars of trauma can run, as well as the dangers posed by predators like Ian, who exploit the vulnerable.

Her story became a rallying point for the Garvey sisters, pushing them to confront Ian and seek justice, not just for Grace but for all they’ve endured together.

Ian, whose real name was Cormac Sweeney, was never the caring husband Grace thought he was. In the finale, it’s revealed that he deliberately joined the bereavement group to prey on vulnerable women, and Grace was his next target. Using her grief and insecurities, Ian manipulated her into trusting him, only to turn around and blackmail her later.

He wanted her money, her house, and anything else he could take. After Grace admitted to killing John Paul, Ian saw it as the perfect leverage to control her. He even demanded cash in exchange for his silence, threatening to expose her secret to the police and her daughter.

When Grace stood up to him, he didn’t back down. Instead, his threats and emotional abuse left her rattled, which eventually led to her tragic accident. Ian wasn’t just after money—he was out to ruin her completely.

The Garvey sisters never trusted Ian, and when they uncovered his lies, they took action. The finale shows them confronting him at Eva’s house, demanding he return the money he stole from Grace’s daughter. Things escalated quickly after Ian refused and spewed insults about Grace, calling her unstable and unlovable.

That’s when Angelica, a longtime family friend, snapped. Overhearing Ian’s words, she hit him over the head, leaving him bleeding on the floor. Panicked and unsure if he was dead, the sisters decided to move the body. They drove to the cliffs, intending to make it look like an accident.

But Ian wasn’t as dead as they thought. He woke up, stumbled out of the trunk, and fell off the cliff himself—only to survive the fall. Instead of finishing the job, the sisters called for an ambulance, choosing to let the law handle him instead.

The sisters may not have killed Ian, but they made sure he faced the consequences. Houlihan, the detective investigating the case, uncovered Ian’s real identity and long history of abuse, fraud, and harassment. Although Ian tried to play the victim, Houlihan and her retired mentor Loftus saw through his lies.

They cornered him at the hospital, forcing him to return the stolen money and accept his crimes would no longer be hidden. Meanwhile, the sisters found some closure by honoring Grace’s memory. In the final scene, they spread her ashes at sea, marking the end of a painful chapter.

Grace’s daughter also found peace, acknowledging her mother’s strength and refusing to let her father’s legacy define her. While the sisters didn’t walk away completely free, they held their ground, protected their family, and ensured Grace’s story didn’t end without justice.
