Anthony Michael Hall reflects on his character in Reacher Season 3

Anthony Michael Hall is stepping into a complex and intense role in Reacher Season 3, the popular Amazon Prime Video series about a former military police officer who takes down massive criminal operations across the U.S. In this season, Hall plays Zachary Beck, a seemingly simple rug importer who is an arms dealer operating in a dangerous underworld.

Hall welcomed his first child, Michael Anthony Hall II, in June 2023. This real-life experience brought new meaning to his portrayal of Zachary Beck. Even though his character’s son is in his 20s on-screen, Hall found himself relating deeply to the emotions of being a father.

“Suddenly, I had so many real emotions to tap into,”

Hall said.

“That helped me connect with Zachary’s struggles, especially his relationship with Richard.”

For Hall, even though Beck is involved in crime, there is a softer side to him, his love for his son. The character is deeply flawed and has made many mistakes, but he longs for redemption and a second chance with Richard. This emotional depth made the role even more exciting for Hall.

In an interview with Variety, Hall described Beck as a man constantly on edge, trying to survive in a dangerous world.

“He has a cover identity, but behind that, he’s part of a criminal network. There’s a power struggle, and he’s just trying to stay alive.”

But it’s the father-son storyline that adds extra layers to the character. Hall emphasized how important this relationship is to understanding Zachary Beck.

“That part of the story, the B storyline, is really about his son, Richard. That made the role even more meaningful to me, especially since I became a father myself.”

Hall’s experience as a new dad gave him an emotional connection to the role, making Zachary Beck more than just a criminal, he’s a man seeking redemption.
