Andrew Garfield was asked about his favorite reality show in an interview with W Magazine. The actor hesitated for a second and then replied Netflix’s Too Hot To Handle is his guilty pleasure. He heaped praises on the game show, explaining how it features contestants on a Love Island-like setting, minus the intimacy:

“F***, it’s really good. So they get to the island, and they're like, 'Woo!' in their swimming costumes… and then a day goes by, they have a party, maybe a couple will make out, maybe there will be some fellatio, it's up to them. And then, it's revealed to them that they are in fact on Too Hot to Handle.”

Andrew added that prize money is involved for people who can brace through the challenge, elevating the competition's stakes. He further talked about Lana, an Alexa-like robot who prohibits the contestants from getting intimate and promotes emotional connections.

Every time they fail to do so, an amount is deducted from their prize money. Andrew Garfield revealed the thing he likes the most about the show is how contestants start to transform during their journey and become vulnerable as they share their traumas:

“You see these people who start to reveal their traumas, and suddenly they're softening and they're vulnerable and they're terrified of doing it, and everyone around them is very encouraging. It's a very beautiful thing.”

In the same interview, he mentioned the British version of The Traitors as another one of his favorite reality shows. The BBC series follows a group of players in a castle who are divided between the "Traitors" and the "Faithful" and must eliminate each other.

What makes Too Hot To Handle a great show?

Too Hot To Handle might seem like a steamy show with a lighthearted theme, but it actually offers surprising depth. The show brings together a group of attractive singles who think they are joining a typical dating show and are in it for fun and physical connections.

However, instead of focusing on hookups, they are encouraged to form real emotional bonds, guided by Lana. They have to avoid any sort of physical intimacy throughout the competition and focus on building genuine heart-to-heart connections that go beyond looks.

As Andrew Garfield pointed out, Too Hot To Handle is different from other dating shows as the contestants get to grow during its course. At first, they focus on their appearances and surface-level flings.

But as the show goes on, they open up about their struggles, fears, and personal traumas, and some of them are able to find stable relationships. The series is a perfect blend of humor, drama, sensual themes, and heartfelt moments, which makes it more than just a guilty pleasure.

Too Hot To Handle seasons 1 to 6 are streaming on Netflix.
