The show's previous episode featured Amanda Barise and Desmond Roberts' elimination. Following the two, two more contestants will be eliminated by the end of the episode.
The first performance on American Idol Season 23 Episode 14 was from Slater Nalley, 18, who sang John Prine's Angel From Montgomery. For his performance, Carrie commented that every time he comes on stage to perform, she could "imagine" what his first album would sound like.
"It's great that your confidence is coming out. I love your stage presence. You're solid as a rock," said Lionel Richie.
Ché from Essex, England, performed Robyn's Dancing On My Own, which, according to Carrie, he made his "own." Lionel felt that his delivery was "spot on." Thunderstorm Artis, 29, sang his rendition of The Animals' House of the Rising Sun. Carrie said it was awesome, and the song choice was perfect.
Kolbi Jordan from Tulsa, Oklahoma, performed Judy Garland's Over the Rainbow.

Luke thought Kolbi's performance was "over a supernova" and a way out in the galaxy.
Filo's rendition of Jennifer Hudson's And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going earned him tons of praise from the judges. Carrie told him to keep on doing "just that." Lionel felt that it was Filo's best performance.
Mattie Pruitt performed Kelly Clarkson's Because of You which Carrie enjoyed. She said that every time she has seen Mattie, she thought she was getting more and more connected with the songs. Luke advised Mattie to keep on "growing and fighting."
