Shark Tank investor Mark Cuban shocked the cryptocurrency landscape as well as his fans after announcing the launch of his meme coin. Cuban, before this launch, had discussed skepticism and the risky nature of meme coins while criticizing them. He shared that his meme coin was to be similar to the $TRUMP token.
In a January 20, 2025, post on his official X account, Cuban announced:
“If meme coins are the way, maybe I’ll issue one. One difference. All the revenue from the sale of the coins go to the US Treasury.”
The meme coin was to be launched on the Solana blockchain and can be bought on Bitget. Following his announcement, the Shark Tank investor revealed that the sales of the meme coin were to be directed towards the US treasury, combining the viral nature of memes for a philanthropy purpose.
Shark Tank investor Mark Cuban launches his meme coin
Shark Tank investor, who previously stated he was against meme coins, announced launching one of his own. Similar to Donald Trump's $TRUMP token, Cuban intends to use his token sales to impact the national debt by sending the revenue directly to the US treasury. As per his post on X, Cuban mentioned:
"Same terms as $TRUMP. 20% float. Same release schedule. The wallet address will be published so everyone can track it. If you want to gamble, gamble. But at least use it to make a dent in the U.S. Debt. You in?”
With the US national debt at $36.22 trillion, Cuban revealed he wants to put meme coins to a good cause. Upon hearing his decision, many people reminded him of a previous statement regarding the meme coins. Back in December 2024, during his interview with Jules Terpak, the Shark Tank investor criticized the nature of meme coins and talked about their unpredictability as well. He said:
“I’m not a fan of meme coins. Obviously, it’s a hustle. There’s no there there. And so it’s just like a game of musical chairs with money. Some people make money and some people won’t."
Cuban addressed his previous statement about meme coins. He said that his main purpose for launching one was for the "benefit" of "all Americans." The Shark Tank investor posted to his X account:
“Just making the point. If it's a grift, make it a grift to benefit all Americans.”
According to the Bitget Wallet, Cuban planned to launch the meme coin on the Solana blockchain, giving general access to tracking to showcase transparency regarding his claim. Additionally, the main purpose of this meme coin, according to Mark, is to lower the national debt. The coin is to feature a 20% float. The Mark Cuban meme coin can be bought on Bitget.
The Shark Tank investor Cuban, known for his tech startups and successful businesses, started his entrepreneurship journey back in the late 1990s when he sold his company Broadcast.com to Yahoo. He was also a producer for 2929 and HDNet Films, which he sold in 2018. Cuban was nominated for seven Academy Awards® for Enron, The Smartest Guys In the Room, and Good Night and Good Luck.
