As the series name suggests, the witch’s real name is Agatha Harkness. She was first introduced in WandaVision as ‘Agnes.’ Agnes was usually all up in Wanda’s business in Westview – an illusionary neighborhood. Although she appears chatty, Agatha usually speaks when spoken to and enjoys passing sarcastic remarks.

In the MCU comics, Harkness was a resourceful witch who lived in Salem, Massachusetts. After narrowly escaping the infamous trials, her powers evolved into something much darker and more unfathomable.

2) Agatha's powers as a witch

Agatha isn’t your usual green-faced, flies-on-a-broom, stereotypical witch. She's got the most potent magical abilities in the MCU.

While she’s no Doctor Strange, Agatha has knowledge of ancient spells, castings, and can even create runes!

Furthermore, she can concoct wicked manipulation spells – a major advantage during battle. Her powers are often accompanied by a purple aura, a sign of her magic.

Agatha’s rivalry with Wanda Maximoff, also known as Scarlet Witch, is a significant element in WandaVision. In the series, Agatha seeks to understand and exploit Wanda’s Chaos Magic for her own gain. Their power struggle showcases Agatha’s cunning and mastery of magic, as well as Wanda’s own burgeoning abilities.

4) Chaos Magic

Chaos Magic has been a prominent part of the MCU, beginning with Doctor Strange’s storyline. This rare and powerful magic allows its users to bend the rules of space-time.

It can alter a person’s reality and even break the present reality or end life itself if not wielded properly. Due to its unstable nature, only someone special and highly skilled can acquire and master it.

5) The Hex

The Hex is a direct result of Chaos Magic – an energy field that alters the reality of a specific place and the people within it. Depending on the user, this Hex can appear in different colors.

In WandaVision, Wanda’s Hex is red, matching her magical aura. The Hex can also be triggered by overwhelming emotions, as was the case with Wanda’s grief. This is what drew Agatha to Westview and to Wanda, like a moth to a flame.
