The twisted tale begins with Elena's disappearance shortly before Vanessa's birthday. Although the two were on excellent terms and called each other best friends, they had a slight altercation on the day Elena went missing. Following a period of disappearance, Elena's dead body was eventually discovered on the school premises. Chiara, whose niece Melissa found herself entangled in the case, was assigned the responsibility of uncovering the murderer's identity.

Throughout the majority of the story, the entire blame for supplying drugs to Elena and subsequently killing her fell on Giorgio's shoulders as he was the last person who saw Elena alive. Despite the odds stacked against him, Giorgio managed to prove his innocence.

Chiara was one of the only people who believed that Giorgio didn't fit into the killer's shoes and that probably Elena's lover was the real culprit. Vanessa too recalled that she saw bruises and scars on Elena that made her suspicious about Enrico inflicting violence on her friend.

Enrico's mother discovered a speeding ticket that bears the same date as that of Elena's murder. It was earlier believed that on the night in question, he had gone away. However, it was later proved that he had taken a detour and stalked Elena before brutally strangulating her with his own hands.

Upon knowing that the truth was out in the open, Enrico did not attempt to deny it. In a chilling confession, he revealed that he had indeed taken Elena's life. He planned on getting away with it owing to his father's reputation. Ironically, it was his mother who handed over the proof of his guilt to Chiara so that justice could be served.
