HBO's impending long-form Harry Potter television series is envisioned as a ten-year adaptation. It is taken from J.K. Rowling's cherished novels, and the Wizarding World will continue to change in 2025.

The series intends to return to Hogwarts in more in-depth, character-driven ways. Longtime fans are excited to return to the halls of their beloved wizarding school, while a new generation will be introduced to the magic through this adaptation.

The cast for this series is undoubtedly different from that of the movies. For example, David Bradley, who first brought the role of Filch to life with scathing sarcasm and tragic overtones, is now being replaced by Paul Whitehouse. This news brought attention to Whitehouse's special link to the Harry Potter world in addition to the character's enhanced function.

Many fans were unaware that Whitehouse had previously worked on the property. Although his scenes were eventually removed, he played Sir Cadogan in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004).

More about the new Filch actor from the Harry Potter series

The Harry Potter franchise gained international recognition with the eight films that were made between 2001 and 2011. The story revolves around a teenage wizard named Harry Potter and his battle against the evil powers of the magical world.

Argus Filch, one of the most prominent characters in the series, was portrayed by David Bradley in the original movies. He gained popularity among fans due to his tough demeanor and persistent efforts to uphold the school's regulations. Filch's character was given depth despite his somewhat humorous appearance.

Fans have been wondering which actors would play these cherished characters as the new Harry Potter series prepares for its eagerly anticipated 2026 premiere.

Paul Whitehouse, a British comedian best known for his roles on programs like The Fast Show, is set to play the role of Filch in the series. Whitehouse's selection for the part of Filch was regarded as a brilliant one because of his experience in physical comedy and his capacity to play quirky characters.

Whitehouse is familiar with the wizarding world, but many fans may not be aware of this. He was already a member of the brand but in a much lesser-known and smaller role of Sir Cadogan. However, his scenes were deleted from the final cut of the third movie Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban. Whitehouse now returns to the franchise, but in a far more important capacity, as the upcoming series will delve much deeper into the Hogwarts world and its characters.

Cast of the Harry Potter series

The eagerly awaited 2026 release of the Harry Potter series has both diehard fans and novices thrilled. The series is based on J.K. Rowling's best-selling books.

In addition to Whitehouse, several key cast members have been confirmed, including John Lithgow as the wise and renowned Hogwarts headmaster, Albus Dumbledore. An outstanding actor with a lengthy career in television and film, Lithgow is well known for his ability to convey the nuance and depth of his parts.

Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall are other noteworthy cast members.
