However, he soon realizes that the job is not as easy as he thought, and there is more responsibility than authority in this position. Here is the complete Abbott Elementary Season 4 Episode 20 recap.

Abbott Elementary Season 4 Episode 20 Recap: The staff organizes a car wash to raise money

In Abbott Elementary Season 4 Episode 20, the teachers decide to organize a car wash fundraiser, and Janine comes up with the idea of making it donation-based. She believes people will donate generously to the cause when they see the teachers and students working hard.

However, things do not go as planned, as most of the people show up only for free washes. The staff is left disappointed until Ava arrives at the scene and donates $100. She also provides them with a list of wealthy people who could become potential donors.

Expensive cars then start pulling up at the wash with some elite people inside. However, the staff’s troubles don’t end as they sense something suspicious about the rich customers.

When Jacob accidentally turns on his megaphone siren, all the cars suddenly move away. This hints that these customers may not have earned their money in legal ways. With the fundraiser starting to fail again, the teachers try to devise a new plan.

Abbott Elementary Season 4 Episode 20: Gregory struggles in his new role

While the teachers deal with the fundraiser, Gregory struggles as the interim principal. He has always wanted this job, but now that he has it, he realizes how challenging it is to manage the school. During the school's open house, he feels overwhelmed as parents start to bombard him with questions.

Things get worse when his ex shows up and makes sarcastic comments about their past relationship. To add to his troubles, Darnell, an angry father, also enters the scene. Even though Gregory gets nervous, he manages to stay calm and handle the situation well.

He reassures Darnell that both teachers and parents are doing their best to help the students. Gregory then feels unsure about his ability to lead and starts questioning if he is really the right person for the job.

As the fundraiser is at the risk of failing, Ava decides to step in, despite having been fired from the school. She comes up with a plan for a block party and allows the school to use the name 'Ava Fest' again.

With rain threatening to ruin the event, the party is moved indoors. The staff members turn the school into a fun-filled festival with different activities, including tarot readings and face painting. Miss Jilly from Philly then makes a surprise appearance and rocks the school with her R&B performance.

In the end, Janine and Ava have a heartfelt conversation, where the former principal acknowledges how much she misses her job despite making a successful career as a motivational speaker. Janine is now more determined than ever to bring Ava back to the school.
