Daredevil: Born Again currently has only one episode left. The eighth episode, "Isle of Joy," concluded with Matt taking the bullet that was meant for Mayor Wilson Fisk, saving his life. This was a shocking moment because, until then, Matt was incensed with the former Kingpin for inviting Heather Glenn only to threaten him.
Matt further believes that Wilson intentionally chose Heather as a psychologist to get back at him. Moreover, Matt, just a few minutes ago, realized that Vanessa was in charge of Wilson Fisk's criminal empire a year ago when Foggy was killed. Therefore, it was she who hired Benjamin Poindexter/Bullseye to kill Foggy Nelson in the Daredevil: Born Again premiere's prologue.
As Matt takes the bullet, the camera focuses on Matt Murdock lying on the floor, bleeding out, with Heather trying to help him. However, much like the screen turning blue during the Bullseye scenes, the frame turns red. Now, the director of the episode—and even the upcoming ninth one—spoke about this moment in an interview with Brandon Davis' Phase Hero: A Film & TV Podcast.
Daredevil: Born Again, Episode 8 directors Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead had this to say about the eighth episode's closing moments
On April 9, 2025, Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead, the director duo who worked on the eighth episode and even the upcoming ninth episode, i.e., the Daredevil: Born Again finale, were interviewed by Brandon Davis for his podcast. When asked about the concluding moments of the episode, the directors had this to say:
"What we wanted to do was have the camera pull out from Matt and Heather and then slowly tilt up into the sky and up on the ceiling there would be some kind of religious iconography on the copola above the dance. It would kind of give this impression of Matt's soul leaving his body, but also this idea of him having committed this act of defending his worst enemy now gives him the grace that he felt like he lost in episode 1; kind of saying like he is Daredevil and he's not lost the privilege anymore. Logistics prevented that, because if you tilted up you'd see a bunch of movie lights. But we realized there's actually an even better idea here by using this language that we've established with the blue lights. We can do that same idea with these flashing red lights, which we also had in episode 1. Then we can have this image that is kind of like this upside down mirror image where he's on the floor and the blood that's pushing towards the camera kind of reminds you of the wages of this thing that he's done."
Murdock's last-minute decision to take the bullet fired by Bullseye meant for Wilson indicates that Matt is still a hero and possesses a moral compass. Furthermore, it also serves as a reference to a previous scene between Poindexter nd Matt in the prison, where the former tells the lawyer that good people will ultimately help even their worst enemy.
While Matt will survive the shooting, it does set up for the next episode, in which Matt will tell Heather that he is The Devil of Hell's Kitchen.
The ninth episode of Daredevil: Born Again will begin streaming on Disney+ on April 15, 2025.
