Steven Knight, the man behind shows like Peaky Blinders and Taboo is teaming up with actor Stephen Graham for a new Victorian-era boxing show, A Thousand Blows.
This Disney Plus and Hulu show is set in Victorian London of the 1880s and focuses on Graham’s character, a dangerous underworld boxer. The series is based on true events and characters and sheds light on the illegitimate boxing rings that existed in the Victorian inner cities.

A Thousand Blows Release Date
A Thousand Blows premiered at the BFI London Film Festival in October, 2024. This 12-part series will come to Disney Plus in 2025 in the UK and viewers in the US will be able to watch it on Hulu.
Though there is no official release date yet for the show, it has been confirmed that the show will be premiering in 2025 on Hulu and Disney Plus.
A Thousand Blows Plot
A Thousand Blows follows a pair of best friends Alec and Hezekiah as they move to London’s East End from Jamaica in the 1880s. Hezekiah finds himself getting drawn to the underbelly of the happening boxing scene and meets Mary Carr, the leader of Forty Elephants, a notorious all female gang.
As Hezekiah trains to be a better boxer, he is pitted against Sugar Goodson, a ruthless boxer. As their professional fights begin, their rivalry starts getting intense beyond the ring.

Thousand Blows stars Stephen Graham playing the role of Sugar Goodsen. Previously, Graham has worked on a number of impressive projects. His past works include, Coronation Street, Gangs of New York, Band of Brothers, Snatch, This is England etc.
Graham also works as the co-producer of the show and mentioned,
“Aside from having the privilege of bringing the role of Sugar Goodson to life, I am also extremely proud that Matriarch is co-producing this show whilst helping to create opportunities for people in front of and behind the camera, instilling the ethos of providing training within production that otherwise would be difficult for some to pursue as a career.”
