A pivotal Atom Eve moment from the Invincible Season 3 finale parallels this Marvel character

Invincible Season 3 finale, "I Thought You'd Never Shut Up," featured a surprising reveal for the character of Atom Eve. That reveal, from a certain point of view, was very similar to the Marvel character Jean Grey's storyline in the movies and even the comics. This reveal happens halfway through this episode, as Eve supposedly "dies" in a fight.

She fights Conquest, the warrior who, unlike the other Viltrumite antagonists of the previous two seasons, doesn't care about the empire and is feared even by his people. He delivers a brutal and killing blow on Atom Eve, even destroying a part of her face.

But turns out he may have celebrated way too soon as she returns and injures him, which is ultimately helpful in Mark delivering the defeating hit on Conquest. While the warrior isn't dead, he is definitely unconscious for now, as shown by the closing moments of Invincible Season 3.

The moment Atom Eve "resurrects" is very similar to Marvel Girl/Jean Grey's Phoenix form.

What happens in the Invincible Season 3 finale?

The finale mostly focuses on the super-powered knock-out brawl between Invincible and Conquest. While Mark manages to draw blood from Conquest in the beginning, the Viltrumite warrior slowly begins to overpower him and even delivers some brutal blows to Oliver. It is here that Atom Eve leaves the hospital and assists Invincible in this fight.

Much like Mark, she first is able to overpower Conquest, only for the tables to be turned against her slowly in the Invincible Season 3 finale. As that happens, he first punches Atom Eve hard enough to break her jaw and then stabs her with his hand. Eve "dies" in Mark's arms, enraging him enough to initially overpower him for a bit. But soon, Conquest overpowers him and is about to kill Invincible.

But this is where Marvel's Jean Grey comparison comes in. As Conquest is choking Mark, Atom Eve's body begins glowing pink, and as she wakes up, she blasts Conquest with powerful pink energy, burning Conquest. Despite the injury, the warrior stands up, but Mark manages to defeat him with a move that he believes killed the warrior.

Cecil gets Mark and Eve to the hospital while imprisoning the unconscious Conquest without the knowledge of the heroes. At the hospital, Eve explains that her powers were limited thanks to a mental block, which was eliminated when she supposedly "died." In the closing moments of the Invincible Season 3 finale, Mark's costume glows pink as he and Atom Eve get intimate.

The reason behind the costume's glow isn't determined though. This is why some have drawn parallels between Eve and the popular character from Marvel's X-Men, Jean Grey, especially in her Phoenix form. But for that, we need to understand Atom Eve's powers.

What are Atom Eve's powers?

On a surface level, one may feel that Atom Eve's powers are very similar to that of the Green Lantern, creating constructs in a specific color. While the Lanterns require their ring, she doesn't need one, and her constructs are pink while theirs are green. But as the show goes on, we learn that she controls matter according to her will at a molecular level, and that was before the Invincible Season 3 finale.

Now that her mental limits are removed, she might be even more powerful than before. Fans, after looking at her pink resurrected form and learning about the mental limits, quickly pointed out the parallels with Jean Grey in the X-Men movies.

Both X-Men: The Last Stand and Dark Phoenix, which adapt portions of the Dark Phoenix Saga, had Charles Xavier placing psychic limitations on Jean. This has fans wondering if the next season of Invincible will have a psychic like Charles Xavier. Maybe we need to wait for now.

A fourth season is being worked on. Until then, catch the entire Invincible Season 3 on Prime Video.
