Taylor Sheridan’s 1923 Season 2 finale showcased the short but heartwarming reunion of Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar) and Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer) after their tumultuous journey. Alex’s journey to Montana and her husband, Spencer, was not an easy one. She encountered every possible difficulty that made her journey more challenging, and in the end, she did not survive and died due to frostbite after giving birth to a son.

While talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Julia, who plays Alex, shared how the role will always be a part of her and that she is still in the stage of grieving. She said,

"I spent two years trying to put as much of myself into her as possible, so she’s with me for life. She’s a piece of me forever, and I don’t quite know how I will process everything this season, but I’m just trying to enjoy how beautiful and special playing Alex was. It was truly the gift of a lifetime."

More on this in our story.

1923 Season 2 Finale: Star Julia Schlaepfer comments on Alex and Spencer’s emotional reunion

Alex and Spencer went through their own arduous journey to reach Montana throughout 1923 season 2 and finally met each other at the end. They embrace after seeing each other for the first time this season.

Actress Julia Schlaepfer shared how she felt about the much-anticipated reunion in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. She said,

"That scene is the first time Alex and Spencer are reunited. It was also the first time Brandon and I were reunited as actors. It was the first scene we shot together this season, which I’m sure was not by accident, scheduling-wise. It was so surreal. We do spend so much of the season not together. As Alex, I was in survival mode all season."

She further added,

"Everyone on the crew was pretty emotional that day because after they both had such hard journeys, it’s so nice to see them back together again, and to also give Brandon and I a little bit of a win in the filming process."

From being s*xually violated to being robbed and disrespected, Alex’s journey in 1923 Season 2 was harrowing, and she endured a lot to be with her husband. However, their love story became tragic as Alex was already on the verge of death when they finally met. After giving birth to their premature child, the doctor asked to amputate Alex’s legs and a hand, as they were frostbitten. But Alex did not agree to it, as she wanted to spend that time with her baby; this choice resulted in her demise.

After their emotional reunion and the clash at the train station, Spencer went back to his wife in the hospital and saw his wife and son, who Alex named John. However, the happiness is cut short as Alex passes away.

Schlaepfer also talked about how she is still processing the end of her character Alex's journey. She stated,

"I still honestly don’t know how I made it through. I’m still processing that! It was the hardest job I’ve ever had, one of the hardest things I’ve ever gotten to do. I’m so lucky. I was so excited to tell this story. But yeah, she’ll be with me forever. She’s a piece of me. My heart breaks for her and I learned so much from her, and I think that when she died, a piece of me died, too, with her."
