A Man on the Inside is a new comedy-drama created by Michael Schur. Known as a creator of sitcoms like The Good Place and co-creator of Brooklyn 99 and Parks and Recreations, Schur's new project is set to release on November 21, 2024.
Starring Ted Danson, the show is about a widowed, retired man who finds a new purpose in life as an undercover detective in a Retirement Residence. This is not the first time that Schur and Danson have teamed up on a project.
Danson played the role of neighborhood architect Michael in Schur's Emmy-nominated sitcom The Good Place.
The show is based on the Oscar-nominated documentary The Mole Agent, which Schur happened upon. The movie follows an 83-year-old Sergio in Chile. The story resonated with him because aging is not often discussed, especially in comedies.

''The hero, Sergio, is so wonderfully wrought, so real, just a lovely human being. It’s a beautiful meditation on aging, a subject we are uniquely terrible in this country at confronting, dealing with, or discussing. It showed the reality of aging for people along a very broad spectrum...''
A Man on the Inside follows a widowed, retired man named Charles. He happens upon an ad in the newspaper for a private detective to solve a mysterious theft. He answers it and admits himself to a retired home in San Francisco, pretending to be a new resident.
What follows will be an adventure and new friendships with the people in the senior living community—a second chance at life for Charles.
