A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the prequel series to Game of Thrones, has officially wrapped up shooting. The first spinoff prequel show, The House of Dragons, concluded its Season 2 on August 4, 2024. And another spinoff show from the same Universe is underway.

George R.R. Martin's novella series A Song of Ice and Fire came to life in the HBO show Game of Thrones and gained immense popularity.

Another novel trilogy published under the collection A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is being adapted into a show. The trilogy, famously called the Tales of Dunk and Egg, consists of three novels: The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, and The Mystery Knight.

The show was announced in April 2023 as the newest addition to Martin's Universe of Westeros. Filming began in June 2024 and wrapped in September 2024. While the episodes have no release date, the show is expected to be released in 2025, as previously announced.

Some changes and delays were expected in the shooting schedules. Still, since there is confirmation about the official shoot wrap, the show is expected to follow the original release window, i.e., 2025.

The show is confirmed to have six episodes which will be directed by Owen Harris and Sarah Adina Smith. Following the release pattern of its predecessor show, The House of Dragon, this show is expected to air sometime in June 2025. However, we await the release date for the same.

The show is set in the fictional world of Westeros, 72 years after The House of Dragons and some 90 years before the Game of Thrones.

According to the official logline of the show:

“Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

What is the story of Martin's 'The Tales of Dunk and Egg,' the basis of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms?

As the name suggests, The Tales of Dunk and Egg are the adventure tales of Dunk, Ser Duncan the Tall and Egg, and King Aegon V Targaryen.

After the death of the Hedge King Ser Arlan of Pennytree, his squire Dunk adopts his armor, money, and horses under the name of Ser Duncan the Tall and leaves for the town of Ashford.

On this journey, he meets a boy named Egg, and he makes him his squire. Later, it is revealed that Egg is actually Prince Aegon Targaryen, who wants to experience the lives of the town's common people.

He disguised himself to communicate with the local ladies and men to understand their way of life. He learned the ways of their simple living, and Dunk learned lessons in chivalry and honor.

Dexter Sol Ansell and Peter Claffey will play the titular roles of Egg and Dunk, respectively.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will be available to stream on Max.
