Severance season two builds upon the world of Lumon, established in the Apple TV+ show's debut season. However, regarding its meticulous detailing, Severance season two comes across as even more layered than its predecessor. With the first two episodes of Severance now being made available to the audiences, one can't help but marvel at the preponderance of hidden details across the Apple TV+ each scene.

At the end of Severance season two episode one, the innies versions of the employees Mark, Helena, Irving, and Dylan are seen coming out of the elevator on the MDR floor. The second episode ends with the outies versions of the MDR employees as they once again board the elevator. The significance of these two concluding scenes from Severance season two becomes apparent when they are played side by side, hinting at the pieces of the puzzle scattered by the creators of the show by means of razor-sharp editing.

As portrayed in Severance, when the employees enter the elevator at the end of episode two, they come out of the elevator on the Lumon floor in real-time at the end scene of episode one. This creative choice perfectly illustrates the bleak worldview of the severed employees. Here's everything that we know.

Severance season two presents the bleak world of MDR employees

Both the concluding scenes of Severance season two episodes one and two mirror each other. The disjoint has never been more clear in the Apple TV+ show, and the depiction of the two split lives of the severed employees is indelible.

The conclusion of the first episode is moving because it depicts the immediate aftermath of the innies' experience with the outside world, most notably Irving's transition from hammering on Burt's door to banging on the elevator door.

However, there is something even more chilling about seeing the outies' lifeless looks when they arrive at the workplace and being unaware of the real-time gap between the incidents. The innies' return is quick, yet the duality of these events highlights how long the temporal gap is. It also brilliantly highlights the severed versions' lack of agency.

One of the most popular hypotheses among fans about the workplace thriller show's second season is that Helly R. is Helena disguised as her innie. After Helly R. discovers her actual identity as Helena Eagan and revolts by using her position of power to spotlight the torture that occurs on the severed floor in the final episode of season one, it is speculated that Helena will want to guarantee that nothing more happens that would harm Lumon's image. This final scene of the second episode adds fuel to the claimed notion.

Will there be a Severance season 3?

As of now, there's no official confirmation about a likely third season of Severance. Nevertheless, Dan Erickson had previously addressed the long delay that transpired between the first and the second season, adding that he would like to remedy this if a third season were on the horizon. He had commented:

"I certainly would like it to (take less time), yeah. You’re always looking to sort of fine-tune the process and take what works and leave what doesn’t work and streamline things. So, my hope is that if there is a season three, it’s going to be sooner. Season two actually took about the same amount of time as season one. The difference, of course, is season one nobody knew what the show was and so they weren’t waiting for it."

Severance season two is exclusively available on Apple TV+.
