Nicholas Alahverdian has many names and has faked his own death, escaped countries, and triggered a manhunt that ran across borders. Dateline’s latest episode, titled The Man of Many Faces, sees Nicholas Alahverdian, aka Nicholas Rossi, back in the US, awaiting trial.
The episode synopsis reads,
"Dateline reports on the dramatic updates in the case of international fugitive Nicholas Rossi, who faked his death as law enforcement closed in on him after allegations of rape and fraud. After a world-wide manhunt, will the man with multiple identities finally face justice?”
After being known as a passionate child advocate, Nicholas supposedly died from cancer four years ago. However, it was later revealed that he had changed his name and faked his own death and was alive and well while living in the UK.
More shocking truths came to light when rape, abuse, and fraud allegations were raised against Nicholas, all of which he allegedly carried out under the pretense of his work as an advocate. His crimes included a number of victims and spanned across different locations.
However, in 2022, in an interview with Dateline, Nicholas had denied all the allegations against him despite previously pleading no contest to the allegations of misdemeanor domestic assault sex crime in Rhode Island and Ohio, respectively.
In Utah, the authorities have identified him not as Nicholas Alahverdian but as Nicholas Rossi, and he is now awaiting trial for two separate rape cases. In these cases he has pleaded not guilty.
As the latest episode of Dateline focuses on the latest revelations regarding the case of Nicholas Alahverdian, let us take a detailed look at the crimes he had committed over the years.

Order to get registered as a sex offender in Dayton, Ohio
After serving as a legislative aide at the Rhode Island State House during the 2000s, Nicholas, in the year 2008, at the age of 21 years, left for college and started to live in Dayton.
There he reached out to Mary Grebinski, and she told Dateline that he reached out to her via Myspace and told her that since he was new there, he was looking for friends. Things, however, took an unfortunate turn when Nicholas cornered and sexually assaulted Grebinski and then asked her not to tell anyone.
Grebinski filed a report, and Nicholas was charged with sexual imposition and public indecency, though he claimed that everything that happened was consensual. After the trial, Nicholas had to pay a fine and was also ordered to get himself registered as a sex offender.
He also sued Grebinski on charges of defamation, but his allegations did not hold in the court.
Rape accusation in Orem, Utah
In September 2008, Nicholas’ was accused by his ex-girlfriend of rape. The woman is named as KP in the legal documents and told the authorities that after meeting Nicholas via Myspace, they had dated for a while but eventually broke up as Nicholas showed aggressive behavior and also took money from her without ever returning it.
The rape happened on September 13 when KP went to Nicholas’ to take back her money as he promised to pay her back. After this unfortunate incident, KP completed a sexual assault kit the very next day, but due to backlogs in the system, it took almost a year to identify Nicholas as an offender.
Finally, in 2020, Nicholas was charged by Utah County prosecutors with rape, and he’s awaiting trial in September 2025.
Refusal to pay back and another rape and attack accusation in South Salt Lake, Utah
In December 2008, another woman, identified in the legal documents as MS, brought rape charges against Nicholas. They met online and dated briefly, and Nicholas bought wedding rings as well.
However, MS said that he was a manipulative man, and he did not pay her back the money he had taken as a loan. She told the authorities that as they were arguing at his place about breaking up, Nicholas forced himself on her and raped her.
For this case the trial is set for April 2025, and Nicholas has pleaded not guilty.
Assault allegations in Pawtucket, Rhode Island
In November 2010, a few days after Nicholas came back to his home state and got married, he was accused of assaulting his wife. She filed a report that said the argument happened over a crying baby, and she was knocked to the ground by Nicholas while he held her neck and did not let her leave.
While Nicholas initially denied these charges, he later pleaded no contest and was slapped with probation. The couple got divorced, eventually.
More allegations following another marriage in Dayton, Ohio
After he was back in Ohio by 2015, Nicholas had founded Community Progress Institute, a non-profit organization that aimed at taking care of downtown Ohio, as said by Kathryn Heckendorn, Nicholas’ ex-wife.
The two had gotten married in October 2015, but Kathryn filed for divorce only after a few months of marriage and accused Nicholas of extreme cruelty and sexual assault. She also mentioned that Nicholas had borrowed money from her that he did not return.
Nicholas did not agree to any of these charges but was certain about the divorce. To Dateline, he also denied having sexually assaulted anyone.
Fraudulent activities in Montreal
Nafsika Antypas, a TV personality, had hired Nicholas in February 2020 as a marketing executive. He was to help with marketing the A&E television show and Antypas’ vegan cheesecake. Antypas mentioned to Dateline that Nicholas had said that his name was Timothy Arthur Nicholas Knight Brown and he had a graduation degree from an Ireland-based Ivy League college.
However, after giving him $30,000, Antypas said that Nicholas never delivered what he had promised. Moreover, when Nicholas realized that he no longer had access to Antypas’ website, he threatened her and also said that he would ruin her brand’s reputation.
Antypas eventually filed a complaint and also hired an investigator to learn more about Nicholas but could not get any information as they were searching for a name that did not exist.
It was only when Nicholas got arrested in Utah under charges of rape that Antypas came to know who he really was. However, Nicholas denied having scammed Antypas in a Dateline interview.
In March 2020, a local news station in Rhode Island announced that Nicholas had died from cancer. However, in January 2022, Utah authorities announced that they were looking for Alahverdian after the Scotland Police had arrested someone under the name of Arthur Knight, as there are possibilities of them being the same person.
It was then revealed that Nicholas had fled the US to avoid his prosecution, and he had a number of charges hanging against him. He faked his own death with the same motive but has now finally been caught.
