Investigation Discovery is soon coming up with a new true-crime docuseries, A Body in the Snow: The Trial of Karen Read. The documentary focuses on the trial of a woman named Karen Read, who has been accused of murdering her boyfriend, John O’Keefe.
O’Keefe died in January 2022, and prosecutors have argued that Read ran him over with her car after a feud between the couple. The case went to trial in 2024 but ended in a mistrial as the jury failed to reach a consensus.
Read is now awaiting a retrial, which is scheduled to begin on April 1, 2025. A Body in the Snow: The Trial of Karen Read will explore the intricacies of the case by interviewing people who are directly involved in it. Here is how and when you can watch the docuseries.
The release date and streaming details of A Body in the Snow: The Trial of Karen Read
A Body in the Snow: The Trial of Karen Read will premiere on ID on March 17, 2025, just two weeks before the commencement of Karen Read’s retrial. The three-part series will be released across three nights from March 17 to March 19, 2025, at 9 PM local time.
While the first two episodes will be two hours long, the third and final part will have a runtime of one hour. Apart from its linear release, the show will also be available to stream on Max.
What is A Body in the Snow: The Trial of Karen Read about?
The true-crime docuseries revolves around Karen Read, a 44-year-old woman accused of killing her boyfriend and Boston police officer John O’Keefe. O’Keefe’s body was found by the authorities under heavy snow on the morning of January 29, 2022.
Read became the prime suspect in this case as investigators claimed she hit O’Keefe with her SUV and left him to die. Prosecutors believe that after a night of drinking, Read dropped O’Keefe off at a party and reversed her SUV car on him before driving away.
However, Read’s legal team argues that she is being wrongfully accused and the real story is more complicated. The defense claims she is being framed, suggesting O’Keefe was beaten by someone and left outside in freezing temperatures.
They believe the investigation was biased due to close connections between law enforcement and the homeowners where O’Keefe was found. The docuseries will explore Read’s 2024 trial, which ended without a verdict as the jury could not agree on a decision.
Read’s retrial is now set to begin in April 2025. The documentary showcases different evidence and theories around the case. It includes interviews with Read, her legal team, and other key people involved in the matter.

Announcing the docuseries, Jason Saralanis, President at Investigation Discovery, said in a statement to Deadline:
“If you are in the New England area of America, you’re probably already obsessed with [this case]. If you’re outside of the Boston metropolitan area, you’ve probably never heard of it before, and it’s incumbent on us to turn it into the next case that everyone’s talking about.”
