911 Season 8 recently is off to a buzzing start (pun intended) with episode 1: Buzzkill. Fans have been anticipating the new season's release since its renewal in 2023. Season 8 promises even more drastic and unruly disasters for the enthusiastic firefighters to navigate.
With new leadership and a dramatic shift in dynamics, there are plenty of changes the 118 will have to deal with. After Bobby Nash (played by Peter Krause) departs from the 118 to work as a consultant on film sets - the team isn’t the same.
Captain Gerrard (played by Brian Thompson) is now Bobby’s replacement and not everyone is on board with his leadership. Especially not Buck since he’s been primarily targeted by the captain since assuming command.
Circling back, Hulu dropped episode 1 of Season 8 on September 26, 2024, and it had several interesting plot lines, especially the Bee-nado which has been teased for a while. After a deadly swarm of killer bees is accidentally let loose in Los Angeles, it's up to the 118 to get a handle on the situation and save lives!
Disclaimer: This article contains spoilers for Season 8 episode 1 of 911. Reader discretion is advised.
How did bee-nado begin in Los Angeles during the premiere of 911?
In the premiere of 911, a plane unexpectedly ran into a migrating swarm of bees - startling them and sending them into a frenzy. While this incident was fairly localized and took place in a secluded area, there was something worse unfolding in Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, a truck en route to a farm transporting 22 million bees suddenly slams into a freeway and overturns - all hell broke loose. The bees begin attacking people within the vicinity and continue to wreak havoc with their stings.
Naturally, this emergency drew 118 to the scene who were already in the middle of a cathartic situation at their precinct. Nevertheless, with their mesh gear and bee-repellent suits, members of the 118 waste no time in rescuing folks.
During their rescue operation, Chimney and Hen rushed to save the truck driver whose life was in grave danger since his throat was swollen up as a result of being stung.
Almost immediately after reeling him away, the truck explodes and the small portion of bees that were trapped now emerged in a tornado-like motion from the explosion; The genesis of bee-nado in 911.
How does the 118 rescue Tori's helper Sheila in the bee-nado premiere of 911?
Unaware of bee-nado, famous personality Tori was in the middle of hosting a soiree to commemorate the launch of her new fragrance line. Her grand party was interrupted by the buzzing and screeching of guests who ran for cover as the bees began descending upon them.
Tori’s aide Sheila had already doused herself with a fair amount of perfume right before the ordeal. Naturally, the bees were drawn to the scent and went straight for her - causing her immense pain due to the stings. Screaming and desperate to escape the agony, she considers jumping into the pool nearby.
Her efforts proved futile since the clever bees knew where she was and attacked her every time she poked her head out of the water. Thankfully, members of the 118 including Buck and Eddie arrive on the scene for assistance.
After he spots Sheila and gets a gist of her situation, Buck devises a brilliant plan to lure the bees away from her. He asks Eddie to spray himself with more perfume and run in the opposite direction to distract the bees. It was a flawless plan because it worked like a charm!
The 118 successfully rescued Sheila and used plenty of duct tape to remove the stingers still attached to her skin; crisis averted (for now). While everyone greatly appreciated Buck’s quick thinking in the situation - Captain Gerard wasn’t happy in the least.
Is Captain Gerard dead in the bee-nado premiere of 911?
No, Captain Gerard is still alive in Season 8 episode 1 of 911. Although he was presumed dead. Shortly after the 118 reconvened at their home base, they found an infuriated Captain Gerard waiting to grill them - to their surprise it was Buck he was most annoyed with.
Gerard began hurling venomous words at Buck expressing his disappointment and scrutinizing his actions in the field even though he saved many lives. Buck was already disgruntled about Gerard bullying him since his arrival in 118.
In the blink of an eye, he threw a powerful right hook at Captain Gerard knocking him out. This wasn’t good news because there was also a pool of blood near his head.
The scene shifts to Angela Basset’s Athena Grant leaving fans on a cliffhanger. However, evidence from behind-the-scenes pictures strongly suggests he’ll return.
What happened to Athena at the end of bee-nado premiere of 911?
The ending of the bee-nado episode in 911 Season 8 comes full circle with the beginning of the episode. Angela Bassett’s character Athena had to deal with ghosts from her past - a person she had thrown in prison a long time back elsewhere.
After navigating a harrowing escape from death - saving the witness, she encounters another bee-related danger. During Athena’s journey back to the 118 in Los Angeles - it was Athena’s plane that collided with the bees causing malfunctions.
Apart from the danger of crashing, she and the passengers have to deal with bees in their cabin. The scene concludes with Athena realizing the danger she’s in and ends with a cliffhanger - her fate undecided.
