1) Homeland
The award-winning series follows Carrie Mathison, a bipolar CIA operative, played by Claire Danes, who is determined to prove that a Marine who returns to the US as a prisoner of war has been turned by Al-Qaeda. She navigates through the political hurdles and personal conundrums while trying to stop a terrorist attack on American soil.
Homeland premiered on Showtime in 2011 and ran for eight seasons. The ensemble cast of the show includes Mandy Patinkin, F. Murray Abraham, Rupert Friend, Morena Baccarin, and Damian Lewis, among others.

2) Designated Survivor
Kiefer Sutherland brought to the screen the formidable Tomas Kirkman, who becomes the President of the United States after a devasting attack during the State of the Union address, which kills everyone in the line of succession. Kirkman, the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, named as the Designated Survivor, is given the Presidential role.
Kirkman takes on the political challenges as he finds means to stop more chaos from erupting. The American political drama series first aired on ABC in 2015. The show was canceled after the first two seasons on the network. However, Netflix picked it up for its third and final season. The cast list of the series includes Italia Ricci, Maggie Q, Michael J. Fox, and Kal Penn, among others.

3) House of Cards
The series follows the story of an immoral and conniving politician, Frank Underwood, played by Kevin Spacey, and his wife Claire, played by Robin Wright, in Washington, D.C. The couple uses power and corruption to fulfill their political ambitions. House of Cards is based on a novel by Michael Dobbs. This was the first series to be produced exclusively for Netflix. The award-winning series ran for six seasons, ending in 2018. The cast of the series includes Kate Mara, Michael Kelly, Neve Campbell, Greg Kinnear, and Diane Lane, among others.

4) Jack Ryan
Released in 2018, this John Krasinski starring political thriller series follows CIA analyst Jack Ryan as he tracks a string of questionable bank transfers carried out by an Islamic extremist. Ryan is put in the center of the field assignment to uncover terrorist exchanges. The action-packed series promises jaw-dropping settings and a gripping storyline. Jack Ryan is based on Tom Clancy’s book.
Jack Ryan ran for four seasons on Amazon Prime Video. A sequel movie for the series is also currently in the making. The show's stellar cast includes Wendell Pierce, Abbie Cornish, Michael Pena, and Harriet Baumann.

5) The Diplomat
The Diplomat premiered on Netflix in 2023 and ran for two seasons, with a third season in development. The show revolved around Katherine Wyler, a newly appointed United States ambassador to the United Kingdom, portrayed by Keri Russell. Wyler is put into the spotlight when she tries to defuse an international crisis, all the while trying to handle her crumbling marriage. As secrets are unraveled and political mind games are set in motion, The Diplomat leaves the audience on tenterhooks.
