Disclaimer: Severance Season 2 Episode 6 spoilers and opinions ahead!
Apple TV+'s Severance keeps the mystery intact in Season 2, Episode 6, titled Atilla. The episode, which dropped on February 21, 2025, complictes the story to the point of confusion, and makes it surprising, too — especially for Burt (Christopher Walken), Irving (John Turturro), and Mark (Adam Scott). We see a dinner party, a break-in, and maybe even a company secret. The episode has everyone eager to know what is going on at Lumon.
Here, we look at five big questions Severance Season 2 Episode 6 brings up and, also try to figure out some of the secrets behind the Lumon corridors!
5 burning questions after Severance Season 2 Episode 6
1) Is Mark going to survive reintegration?
The Severance episode ends with a frightening scene, as Reghabi sends Mark's severance chip flying in order to speed up his return to work. This causes Mark to have a bad experience with weird images and pain. He mixes up memories of Helly R and his wife, Gemma, who everyone thinks is dead.
The Ringer says that they have never seen someone try to get back to normal this quickly after being severed. No one knows at this point if Mark (played by Adam Scott) will be okay. When he falls down and starts shaking with foaming spit coming out of his mouth, Devon and Reghabi are scared. Maybe, this is what happens when Lumon's plan kicks in, to stop employees who find out too much.
Or is Mark possibly about to figure out the biggest secret about the company? We will find out in the episodes coming up.
2) Why is Helena following Mark around?
Helena shows up at the same restaurant as Mark after their surprising intimate encounter at the ORTBO. She then starts a flirty but weird conversation with him. Helena talks about Lumon's secret work on cutting ties with employees.
Then, she asks Mark to meet her dad, James Eagan. It seems like she might want to know what Mark remembers, but it also looks like she is interested in him for real. This part of the story of Severance makes us see that Helena has a soft side and wants to develop a true bond with Mark.
However, when she messes up the name of Mark's late wife, everything feels fake once again. Mark gets suspicious and quickly goes back to Reghabi, to speed up his return to normal life. We are left wondering if Helena is questioning her job at Lumon, or if she is just playing with Mark's mind to find out his secrets.
3) What is Wintertide, and why does it matter?
Mr. Milchick's enigmatic statement in this Severance episode has left everyone curious. What does 'Wintertide material' really mean? The term seems to suggests something secret and possibly transformative, like a hidden ceremony or a special rank within Lumon.
The term could relate to a leadership training program, too, or could it be something more mysterious? The Ringer has some interesting thoughts on this. They think Miss Huang's experience might mirror Harmony Cobel's childhood, hinting at a deep-rooted tradition at Lumon. With Lumon's reputation for being a bit like a cult, Wintertide could be a program that grooms employees for higher roles.
What if it is not just about training, though? There might be a darker side to the idea that possibly involves advanced severance experiments. Miss Huang's involvement is another puzzle. It remains to be seen if she is voluntarily partaking in these experiments, or is just another unknowing subject under Lumon's control.
4) Why is Mr. Drummond investigating Irving?
During a dinner party at Burt's place, Mr. Drummond (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) searched through Irving's apartment. He focused on documents connected to Irving's personal investigation into Lumon. Its odd timing makes you wonder if Burt's invite was meant to be a strategic distraction.
Irving has had a strange fascination with Lumon's black hallway. He has been making secretive phone calls and taking notes outside of his work hours. These notes suggest that he has been keeping an eye on employees who have been let go. Maybe he is looking for a pattern or clues of something shady happening.
Things got interesting on Severance when Irving's innie outed Helena Eagan (Britt Lower) at a special Lumon event. After that, Lumon might have started seeing him as a potential problem. Is he part of a hidden group trying to bring down Lumon? Or is he an ex-Lumon worker who is slowly remembering his past?
The dinner party was more than awkward small talk. It was a chance for someone to snoop around while Irving was busy. What they found could be important to understanding his mysterious behavior and link to Lumon's secrets.
5) How deep does Burt's ties to Lumon go?
Prior to Episode 6, Burt was thought to be a former Lumon worker who had a real bond with Irving. But John Noble's character, Fields, made a drunken mistake and let it slip that Burt had been connected to Lumon long before the severance process even existed. This makes us wonder if Burt's outie is lying about his history or is part of a bigger secret plan at Lumon.
Since Burt quickly changed the subject when Fields talked about his old Lumon partner, it looks like he might be hiding something. The strange reason Burt and Fields gave for severance — to save the soul of Burt's innie soul while his outie's soul was damned — doesn't hold up to Christian beliefs, as Erik Kain from Forbes pointed out. This suggests they might be hiding a darker truth.
If Burt has had ties to Lumon for more than 20 years, he could have important information about the company's true goals. Yet, he hasn't shared it so far.
With just four episodes to go in Season 2, Severance keeps throwing us new questions without giving many answers. One thing is clear: The upcoming events will shake things up big time.
