Tuesday, March 11, 2025, saw the release of the third episode of Daredevil: Born Again, "The Hollow of His Hand." The major focus of the episode was on the trial of Hector Ayala, who was arrested in the second episode on murder charges. Matt Murdock suspects that there is more to this case and decides to represent Hector. While the trial ultimately ends in Hector's favor, it may not matter.

"The Hollow of His Hand" rather ends on a tragic note for Hector and sets up an important plot point that will be addressed in an upcoming episode of Daredevil: Born Again. But despite all the darkness in the episode, it still featured a few references to the overall Marvel Universe Born Again is a part of.

Daredevil: Born Again Episode 3 some easter eggs and references to the Marvel Comics and Universe:

As stated earlier, this Daredevil: Born Again episode was rather serious; therefore, it featured very limited references to Marvel Comics and the overall Marvel Universe. But it did feature one major reference to a Spider-Man character. Other than the Spider-Man Easter egg, it featured other references to the Marvel Universe. Here are the five easter eggs that were observable in this episode:

  • Pingo Doce

2008's The Incredible Hulk has started gaining importance in the past few months because of the fourth Captain America movie, Captain America: Brave New World. The latest Born Again episode follows the suit with a shout-out to the solo Hulk movie. At one point in the episode, a bus stop with an advertisement for the Pingo Doce soda is seen.

At the start of the 2008 movie, Bruce Banner (played by Ed Norton), who is a fugitive from the US government, is working in the Brazilian bottling plant of the same soda.

  • Shout out to Muse

As Cherry goes to pick the witness on the Hector Ayala case up, he passes the large mural of the Punisher skull on the wall with the word "Triggered" on the top. The lover of half of the skull forms three popular New York landmarks, including the Statue of Liberty placed in the middle between two buildings. The mural is painted by none other than Muse, one of Marvel's deranged serial killers.

  • The Punisher Skull

The episode ends on a heartbreaking note as Hector Alaya meets his end in his White Tiger outfit. He hears someone's cries for help and is about to help them when someone comes out of nowhere and shoots him dead. As the figure starts walking towards the camera, we can see that the assailant was wearing The Punisher's skull.

It was confirmed that Daredevil: Born Again will address the issue of fringe sections of society in the real world co-opting the Punisher's skull symbol.

During Hector's trial, the camera shows us his wife, sister, and niece. Of these, his sister and niece are crucial for the White Tiger mythos in the Marvel Universe. In the comics, after Hector, his sister and niece Angela are the ones who take the White Tiger mantle. However, it is unclear if either of these two will suit up as the White Tiger and inherit the mystical amulet, though.

  • Officer Morales

As the witness turns hostile in the court, Matt has no alternative but to out Hector as the White Tiger in the court in this episode of Daredevil: Born Again. This reveal probably changed the hearts of the jurors and even some police officers, as the vigilante had helped some cops in the past. Murdock reads countless police reports that thanked White Tiger for his help. One of these reports is that of a police officer named Morales.

For those who might be unaware, the officer in question might probably be Jefferson Morales, Miles' father. We have seen Jefferson in the two Spiderverse movies, where he is voiced by Brian Tyree Henry.

The first three episodes of Daredevil: Born Again are available to stream on Disney+.
