1923 Season 2 premiere: Cole Brings Plenty, aka Pete Plenty Clouds, tributed in the Yellowstone spin-off's return

Yellowstone's spin-off series, 1923, kicked off its Season 2 on Paramount+, and Episode 1 opened with a dedication to actor Cole Brings Plenty.

Cole Brings Plenty played the character of Pete Plenty Clouds in the spin-off, who tragically passed away at the age of 27 in April 2024.

Brings Plenty went missing for five days in April 2024 until his family released the tragic news of his passing. He was an important part of the show, played Teonna's love interest, and would have had a major role in Season 2.

What happened to Cole Brings Plenty?

Brings Plenty, who starred as Pete in 1923 Season 1, was reported missing in April 2024 after he missed a Zoom meeting with his agent, and nobody was able to contact him.

Prior to this, on March 31, 2024, Brings Plenty was identified as the main suspect in a domestic violence case. He was recorded on CCTV cameras, leaving the city and traveling southbound on 59 Highway, after a woman was heard screaming for help.

On April 5, five days after his disappearance, he was found dead in Johnson County, Kansas. While the police did not release the cause of his death, no foul play was suspected.

Actor Moses Brings Plenty, who plays Mo in Yellowstone and also acted as the Native American consultant on the series, is Cole Brings Plenty's uncle. After his tragic death, he released a statement from Cole's father and his brother Jo:

“I am deeply saddened to confirm that my son, Cole, has been found and is no longer with us. We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone for the prayers and positive thoughts you sent for Cole. During this incredibly difficult time, we ask for privacy as we process our grief and figure out how we move forward.”

Pete Plenty Clouds' character was recast in 1923 Season 2

While Brings Plent's death was tragic, his character in 1923 was important, mainly because he was Teonna Rainwater's (Aminah Nieves) love interest. So his character was recast in Season 2, and actor Jeremy Gauna was brought in to play the role.

Gauna also appeared in Yellowstone's spin-off, 1883, where he played the role of a warrior whom Elsa Dutton shoots. He recently played the character of Tall Shadow in Netflix's American Primeval. The actor was also a friend to Brings Plenty and discussed the significance of this recasting in 1923 (via USA Today):

"It is a lot of weight on my shoulders, but I gladly wear it. It's a blessing.''

Nieves, Brings Plenty's co-star, shared a sisterly bond with him and discussed this tragic loss on the premiere of 1923 Season 2 (via USA Today):

''Coco was my brother. The only reason I'm here tonight is to honor him wholeheartedly."

She added:

"He was so excited, especially when he learned that he was going to be in almost every episode. It was like, 'Wait, you're (like) my sister, and I'm your brother, which is kind of gross.' But he loved it."

Gauna will continue Brings Plenty's legacy by playing his character in 1923 Season 2.
