Yellowstone's prequel series is about to premiere with 1923 Season 2, as the recently released trailer spells trouble for the Dutton family and the ranch.

After the suspenseful finale of season 1, which separated Spencer from his wife, Alex, it seems like the couple is on their separate journeys toward home and each other.

Since the second season is also the show's final, Jacob and Cara's stakes will increase tenfold, with Donald Whitfield striking again to acquire their land. The couple's business from season 1 will continue as they will try their best to fend their land from Whitfield.

Season 2 trailer also teased snow-covered mountains, which suggests the Duttons are up for a harsh winter, which will add to their misery in the final season. Considering its 1923, and the homes are not yet equipped with the latest technology, the Duttons would be in trouble, with Whitfield and his men trying to take control of their land.

More on Jacob and Cara's unfinished business in 1923 Season 2 in our story.

With the recently released trailer for 1923 Season 2, the threat might be doubling for Cara and Jacob, with Whitfield determined to take their land away.

Donald Whitfield, the mining tycoon and the show's primary antagonist, was introduced in season 1, who wanted to acquire every inch of the Paradise Valley and the Dutton ranch. It looks like Jacob and Cara still have unfinished business left with him as he is plotting to go all in to acquire what he wants.

In the trailer, Whitfield says:

"It's time to build an army,"

This hints that the fight for the Dutton ranch will be bigger and bloodier in 1923 Season 2. And since the second season will conclude the show, this will be the final showdown between Whitfield and the Duttons, increasing the couple's stakes tenfold.

1923 Season 2 trailer: Jacob will have to leave Cara alone on the ranch

Talking of unfinished business, the trailer also hints that Jacob will go on a journey to find Spencer after the news of his accident in season 1 must have traveled to him. Cara makes her husband promise that he will bring 'him back,' and later, Jacob is seen waiting at a train station, which suggests that he will leave the ranch to find Spencer.

This also means that Cara will be left alone, fending herself and the ranch alone from Whitfield and his army. Whether Jacob and Spencer will make it in time and reach Cara to protect their ranch remains to be seen, but there is also a foreshadowing in the trailer, which suggests that Jacob might die in season 2.

Cara says in the trailer:

''This ranch will drive you to your death''.

While the person she says this to is not revealed, it suggests that the Dutton patriarch, i.e., Jacob, might die in 1923 Season 2, like its parent show Yellowstone.

Tune into season 2 on Paramount+ on February 23, 2025.
