1923 cast and character guide: Every character returning to the second season of Taylor Sheridan's prequel

Created by Taylor Sheridan, 1923 is an American drama that explores the life of Duttons in a pandemic, drought, and plague-stricken area of the Mountain West in the early twentieth century. The series first aired in December 2022 on Paramount+.

The much-awaited second and final season of the Paramount Network show 1923 is finally here. Season 2 will premiere on Sunday, February 23, on Paramount+.

Produced by Bosque Ranch Production, MTV Entertainment Studios, and 101 Studios, 1923 has won an Academy Award nomination too. However, the series is nothing without its talented cast members including Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren.

Who are the returning cast members of 1923 Season 2?

1. Harrison Ford as Jacob Dutton

Veteran actor and Academy Award nominee Harrison Ford is often called an American cultural icon. With notable films such as Star Wars (1997), The Force Awakens (2015), and The Last Crusade (1989), Ford has been able to secure a prominent position in America's film history.

In the Paramount series 1923, Ford plays the role of Jacob Dutton. He is chosen as the patriarch of Yellowstone after the death of the ranch founders and his brother James Dutton (Tim McGraw) and Margaret (Faith Hill).

As the patriarch of the Duttons, he is responsible for turning the ranch into an empire. After his marriage with Cara Dutton, they raise James and Margaret's children Spencer and John Dutton Sr. Even though James faces various assassination attempts, he remains one of the crucial characters of the series as we gear up for Season 2.

2. Helen Mirren as Cara Dutton

Helen Mirren plays the role of Cara Dutton, the wife of Dutton patriarch Jacob. Her character is a strongheaded woman who keeps the family together. She is not only in charge of the day-to-day business of the Yellowstone ranch but also a brave woman who could go to any heights to save her family.

Oscar-winner Helen Mirren is another veteran actor of the 1923 series with notable films like The Last Station, The Queen, and many more.

3. Brandon Sklenar as Spencer Dutton

Brandon plays the role of Spencer, the youngest child of James and Margaret Dutton, the founders of the Dutton ranch. He is also the younger brother of Elsa and John.

After the Great War, he moves to Nambia to become a successful hunter as we see in Season 1. In the first season, we also witness his journey back home after facing difficult situations in Nambia. It would be interesting to note his journey back to the ranch in Season 2.

4. Julia Schlaepfer as Alex Dutton

Alex Dutton or Alexandra, is a woman who falls in love with Spencer Dutton. Alexandra is portrayed as a rich and successful woman who joins Spencer for his trip back home to Yellowstone Ranch. She and Spencer struggle through the various dangerous encounters they have on the journey together. In the meantime, she also ditches her fiance Arthur who gets killed in a duel with Spencer in Montana.

Julia Schlaepfer is a 29-year-old American actor who is a part of brilliant projects including The Politician (2019-2020) and American Horror Stories (2022).

5. Darren Mann as Jack Dutton

Jack Dutton is the son of Emma and Jon Dutton and hence a great-nephew of Jacob Dutton. He seems to be a dedicated rancher who falls in love with Elizabeth Strafford (daughter of Bob Strafford) and marries her.

We can see the fun-loving and dedicated rancher in the trailer of 1923 Season 2. The Canadian actor Darren Mann beautifully portrays the role of Jack Dutton. He is also well known for his roles in Giant Little Ones (2018) and Embattled (2020).

6. Michelle Randolph as Elizabeth Dutton

Michelle Randolph plays the role of Elizabeth Dutton, Jacob Dutton's wife in the 1923 series. The daughter of Bob Strafford, Elizabeth also suffers a miscarriage in Season 1. It would be interesting to see how they face the post-miscarriage struggles in their relationship in Season 2 of 1923.

Michelle Randolph, a 23-year-old American actress is best known for her roles in A Snow White Christmas (2018) and Landman (2024-2025).

Isabel May is back in the role of Elsa Dutton in 1923. She is the main narrator of the story of Duttons, her family. She is an American actress who starred in shows like Alexa & Katie (2018-2020) and Age of Summer (2018).

8. Sebastian Roche as Father Renaud

We would also see Sebastian Roche as Father Reanaud in the trailer of 1923 Season 2. He is majorly a narcissistic Roman Catholic priest who uses corporal punishment in his boarding school. Who can forget the infamous scene of him hurting Teonna?

Sebastian Roche is a French American actor who is well known for his roles in The Green Bird (2020) and The Namesake (2006).

9. Aminah Nieves as Teonna Rainwater

Aminah Nieves plays the role of Teonna Rainwater. Her character will be returning to the 1923 Season 2. She is seen as a wanderer in the trailer after she escaped the brutalities in the Roman Catholic boarding headed by Father Renaud.

After several ups and downs, we see Teonna finally in a happy space after being reunited with her friend Pete and also her father. Aminah Nieves is a young American actress who has been a part of projects like V/H/S/99 and Blueberry (2021).

10. Brian Geraghty as Zane Davis

Brian plays the role of Zane Davis, a fierce loyal ranchman of the Dutton family. However, in the finale episode, we find him being chased by the police. Zane is married to Alice Chow and has two children a son Mathew and a daughter Madelyn.

Brian Geraghty is a 49-year-old American actor and is best known for appearances in films like Jarhead (2005) and The Hurt Locker. He is also a part of the TV series The Alienist where he plays the role of Theodore Roosevelt.

11. Andy Dispensa as Luca

Luca was first introduced in 1923 Episode 5 as a tugboat captain who drives the boat that Spencer and Alexandra use for crossing the Suez Canal.

Jerome Flynn plays the role of Banner Creighton, leader of the local sheepman in the series 1923. He is back in Season 2 to seek revenge from the Duttons.

Who are the new cast members of 1923?

Apart from the known faces, we can also see some new faces which include Jennifer Carpenter as Mamie Fossett (U.S. Deputy Marshal) and Augustus Prew as Paul (a young lad). We also got a glimpse of Janet Montgomery who plays Hillary.

In the final season of the Paramount series, we might find some intense face-offs. To begin with, we find Jacob and Cara Dutton back at their Yellowstone ranch to save their family ranch from weather and outsider troubles.
