The movie features Sam Lowry, a lowly official in the ministry whose whole life becomes entangled in mistaken identities, bureaucratic errors, and bluntly oppressive structure. The surreal visuals and absurd humor in Brazil probe the disastrous dehumanization after totalitarian regimes, with their characteristic loss of individuality in this increasingly regulated world.
