A high-ranking officer, played by Christian Bale, starts to question the very system he is sworn to uphold after failing to take a scheduled dose of his emotional depressant. The blend of action and philosophy permeates the film, which explores conformity, free will, and the dangers of a society that values peace rather than rich-textured individuality.
