There is a popular fan theory around the Nickelodeon show SpongeBob SquarePants that the main characters of the animated show actually represent the seven deadly sins. For instance, Sandy’s character thinks science and Texas rank above everything else, demonstrating Pride. Mr. Krabs’ fixation on making more money can be linked to the sin of Greed, while SpongeBob’s need to please everyone, all the time, might be linked to the sin of Lust.

With these descriptions of the characters’ traits, this is one of those TV show fan theories that appears to be strangely believable.

9) Derek Shepherd from Grey’s Anatomy is not dead

Another one of the weird TV show fan theories is around Meredith’s greatest love, Derek Shepherd’s death. Many Grey’s Anatomy fans still believe that Derek Shepherd is actually not dead yet.

There are many fan theories around where he might be, but the most believable one would definitely be that Meredith is suffering from Alzheimer’s, just like Ellis Grey, which resulted in her forgetting about him. Although wild, there might be people who have not been able to get over McDreamy’s death yet.

8) Friends is all Pheobe’s imagination

It is known that Phoebe Buffay comes from a difficult family background and might actually be an outsider who watches the gang from the window of Central Perk and imagines the story. This strange fan theory is formed due to Phoebe’s eccentric personality, as some people don’t believe in Phoebe’s random knowledge on important subjects such as business and history.

They think Phoebe is imagining this stuff, and her imagination ends with the final scene when all of the characters leave the coffee shop. Although weird, this is still one of the most believable TV show fan theories.

7) Dexter created his family in his lab in Dexter's Laboratory

There is a popular theory that Dexter might have created the family that we see in the animated show after all of them died during a failed experiment. Even in the title track, there’s a line:

Dee Dee blows his experiments, to smithereens there is gloom, and doom while things go boom in Dexter’s Lab!

This suggests that Dee Dee might have unknowingly blown up an experiment, resulting in everyone else’s death. Moreover, his parents’ non-indulgence in his work in the lab also suggests that they might just be clones created by Dexter.

6) Fan theories around the appearance of characters of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

If you have seen It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, you might know not to trust the trio, Dennis, Dee, and Mac. The manipulative and narcissistic characters of the show are actually narrating the events, putting themselves at the center of those events. Many fans believe that since we see the story from their perspectives, they show the viewers their romanticized version of themselves. However, even with extreme good looks, other characters often reject them, making the fan theory more believable.

Moreover, fans also suggest that the characters of Frank and Charlie are satisfied with themselves, so we see them as they are. These descriptions of the characters make this one of the weirdest but most believable TV show fan theories.

5) The gang in the Scooby Doo series are fleeing the US

There is this wild fan theory around why a group of people who have nothing in common are traveling around in a van. The fan lore around it is that the show takes place during the Vietnam War, and the gang is fleeing their country and going to Canada.

Fred’s haircut suggests that he was about to join the army and go to Vietnam, but he eloped with his girlfriend and, along the way, met Shaggy, Scooby, and Velma, a social activist. Together, they are running away from their country to avoid being part of the war. Animated shows of yore have the weirdest but also most believable TV show fan theories.

4) The Pokémon war theory

While watching Pokémon as a kid, you might have been envious of Ash Ketchum’s journey with his friends, while most kids didn’t even get permission for a sleepover. Due to this, many people theorized that the entire franchise took place after a great war in which many men must have died, and that the Pokémon in the series were actually the living weapons that were used in the war.

This theory became more believable with Lieutenant Surge from Pokémon Red and Blue revealing that electric Pokémon saved him during the war, making this another one of the strangely believable TV show fan theories.

3) Regeneration makes The Doctor stronger in Doctor Who

Doctor Who has been one of the cult classic TV shows, which premiered in 1963 and was revived again in 2005. While dealing with dangerous and evil characters, the Doctor also time-travels and regenerates, which gives us a new Doctor, played by a new actor.

There is a popular theory that every time the Doctor regenerates, he becomes much stronger than his previous self, which in turn helps him fight more powerful and dangerous situations than before. Whether true or not, this theory is one of the mind-blowingly believable TV show fan theories.

2) Breaking Bad being the prequel of The Walking Dead

Another one of those wild TV show fan theories would be Walter White causing a zombie apocalypse. While we have seen him destroying his and his family’s life in the greed for more power and money by cooking the blue crystal meth, we also see it in Season 2 of The Walking Dead when Daryl hands Merle’s secret drug stash, which also contained painkillers, to help T-Dog.

Other than this, fans have also found a resemblance between the red car that Glenn drives in Season 1 and Walter White’s car, which he returns to the car dealer, who was also coincidentally named Glenn.

While these similarities might only be because both shows were produced by AMC, it does not hurt to believe that Walter White might have destroyed the whole world with his greed, making this one of the believable TV show fan theories.

1) Hawkins Town might actually be a government experiment in Stranger Things

While watching Stranger Things, one question kept bugging me: Why wouldn’t anyone try to leave the cursed town where, now and then, a new life-threatening danger arises?

This question took me to one of the Stranger Things rabbit holes, in which a fan theory suggested that the whole town of Hawkins might be a government experiment where everything is being monitored. Hence, no one leaves the town.

Another point that supports this theory is that almost everyone in the town, such as Joyce and Hopper, has a familial connection to the lab or the government. This theory sounds weird at first, but it can actually be one of the believable TV show fan theories.
