Created by Mike White, The White Lotus, recently released its third season on February 16, 2025, which culminated on April 6, 2025. The black comedy and drama anthology has gained praise for its plot, direction, stunning locales, and well-fleshed characters. The show’s format focusses on a group of characters each season, who arrive at the luxurious titular resort in a dreamy locale and over the course of their stay, many hidden secrets and agendas related to the guests and the staff, are revealed. The third season’s finale was explosive and there were many hints given before that viewers might have missed. Here is a list of 10 of them.
Chelsea's warnings, Tim's visions, and other times when The White Lotus season 3 hinted at the ending
1. The pong pong tree

The White Lotus season 3 has a lot of foreshadowing from the beginning itself and that is visible from the introduction to the dangerous fruit of the pong pong tree, which is introduced as being deadly when eaten. Early into the season, the Ratliff family is seen admiring the tree and it is noted that there are several of such trees in the resort grounds. The fact that this particular tree and fruit were described in the show, out of all the other trees, foreshadows that this deadly fruit could be used in some capacity later. The fact that Rick is upset over his illegal businesses is also introduced early in the season and could be a hint that he would use the fruit. However, the fruit did not directly kill anybody, but its seeds were used in the finale multiple times. Tim tried to poison his family and Lochlan drank some of the fruit himself.
2. The formula of threes

If there is any character who does the most foreshadowing in The White Lotus season 3, then it is Chelsea. Intuitive and compassionate, Chelsea’s dialogues are like a peek into the finale. In one instance, she speaks about how bad things happen in threes. This refers to her earlier experiences where firstly, she was held at gunpoint during the jewelry store robbery and secondly, when she got bit by a poisonous snake after a few days. She therefore believes that while she survived the first two attempts on her life, the third time would not be so lucky for her. Chelsea even makes references to the Final Destination movies and believes that death is near her and might come for her at any moment. And as the finale would have it, the third danger on her life came from none other than her love, Rick, who got into a fight and because of which, Chelsea died mistakenly.
3. Timothy’s theft

The Ratliffs and their son, Lochlan, made for an interesting set of characters in The White Lotus season 3. And the most amusing of them was Victoria Ratliff, whose way of speaking has already gone viral and become instant fodder for memes. However, one of her defining traits in the show is the fact that she takes an anti-anxiety drug called lorazepam to keep herself calm and composed. Her husband on the other hand, Timothy, is fed up of her habit of abusing the drug and begins to steal it. This small instance begins to make sense in the finale, when Timothy’s son, Lochlan, also steals some of the pina colada left over from the night before and tries to drink the alcohol, which has the seeds of a deadly fruit that could kill him. While he survives, the little bit of foreshadowing will only make sense when the finale takes place.
4. Mook and Gaitok’s relationship

Another subtle hint that is present in The White Lotus season 3, which hints at the events of the finale is the budding relationship between Mook and Gaitok. In the finale, Rick shoots Sritala’s guards when Chelsea is killed and is taking her body away when Rick is shot twice by Gaitok. The death of Chelsea was already a surprising twist and then the death of Rick, just made it worse. But this scene is foreshadowed by Gaitok’s relationship with Mook throughout the series. Gaitok wants to become more aggressive and tries to impress Mook by becoming more manly and improving his social standing and financial standing by showcasing to her that he is not just a mere bodyguard. If Gaitok did not have feelings for Mook and did not want to impress in front of her, he might have not killed Rick as an act of aggression.
5. Chelsea warned Rick

As stated above, Chelse is one of the most intuitive characters in The White Lotus season 3 and all her words came true in the finale. In the first episode itself, there is a lot of foreshadowing. Chelsea immediately points it out to Rick that he is a victim of his own decisions and he gives off that vibe, which underscores that this personality trait of his will be his biggest enemy. Even when Chelsea tried to get Rick into therapy, which was a step in the positive direction, Rick could not let go of his past. The entire season, Rick spends his time pondering over questions about murder and life and his personality, coupled with the hints that Chelsea gave, made it amply clear that Rick would do something impulsive in the finale. No wonder then, that Rick opened fire in a reckless manner that resulted in his and Chelsea’s death.
6. Tim’s visions

Tim from The White Lotus season 3, is a character who is battling his inner demons throughout the entirety of the series. While Chelsea’s words and other instances hinted at what would happen during the finale, Tim’s dreams and graphic visions were also an important part that came across as a red herring. Tim is so depressed by his situation in life that he imagines killing his family by first shooting his wife, Victoria. He then proceeds to have visions of shooting the stars. While what he sees does not exactly happen as that would be fairly easy to guess, these visions do point out that the Ratliffs have a lot of traumas within them that could open up at any moment. Tim killing his family, scratched his murder-suicide scenario that he was thinking in his head. However, when the time came, he chose to protect his family from the poisoned cocktails.
7. Chelsea’s talk about intertwined fates

The White Lotus season 3 has generated a lot of buzz and one of the stand-out features of the show is the warm relationship between Chelsea and Rick. While Rick is battling his own demons and is impulsive, Chelsea is like calm waters, who knows how to guide people and is wise beyond her years. As mentioned above, there are several moments in the show when Chelsea foreshadows what would happen in the finale of the show. Even in the final episode, Chelse is talking to Rick at dinner and she tells him that their fates are intertwined. She further states that what will happen to him, will happen to her, and vice versa. Unsurprisingly, this is exactly what happens in the series’ finale. Rick gets into a fight, which causes Chelsea’s mistaken death by gunshot, which eventually leads to Rick being shot as well. The couple were therefore truly there for each other in life and death.
8. The relationship between Jaclyn, Kate, and Laurie

Another set of characters who were important to The White Lotus season 3, were the trio of friends, Jaclyn, Kate, and Laurie. While their friendship was a huge mess and there were simmering insecurities that threatened to have a full blowout in the finale, the fight never happened. In the end, the trio tearfully make up with each other and accept the faults in their friendship and wow that they will continue to love each other regardless. However, this somber and peaceful ending was teased throughout the show. If looked at closely, the three friends never had any arguments and only had some resentments. The simmering tensions amongst the three were ample clues that they are not the kind of people who would have full-blown fights. In the finale, the viewers got a tearful monologue from Laurie, instead.
9. Gaitok’s skills

Another little foreshadowing that The White Lotus season 3 does is that it shows Gaitok to be skilled at shooting. Gaitok’s role in the series is all about impressing Mook and getting a promotion for himself. He therefore wastes no time in trying to climb his job’s ladder at any given point. When he is given a gun by his supervisor, viewers can already deduce that he will use it in some big manner in the show. Gaitok gets the gun and he proves that he is naturally good at shooting, proving his accuracy skills as well. It is no winder then that Gaitok does not miss the chance to make a heroic shot and shoots Rick during the finale. However, people can argue that his shot was given in Rick’s back when he was unarmed, which signifies cowardice and does not need a maverick for that kind of shot. However, Gaitok’s stint with the gun earlier, is a definite hint at the finale.
10. The snake symbolism

The White Lotus season 3 is set in Thailand that abounds in flora and fauna. The show therefore uses this foliage to its benefit and particularly uses snakes to hint, foreshadow, and symbolize things. Throughout the season, snakes could be seen at various points. When the robbery scene takes place, one of the ornaments stolen from the hotel, was in the shape of a snake. Further, Chelsea is bitten by a snake when Rick set them free. It is therefore suggested that snake was a recurring symbol in Rick’s life and symbolized trauma related to his parents’ death. This trauma made Rick shoot Jim in the finale and realizing that he was actually Rick’s father. Finally, this instance culminated in the deaths of Chelsea and Rick.
