Cersei Lannister, portrayed by Lena Headey, is one of the most hated characters in the Game Of Thrones. She alone is responsible for many deaths that took place in the acclaimed HBO series. From letting her cruel son order the execution of Ned Stark to being responsible for the destruction of King’s Landing, Cersei is regarded as being ruthless and cunning. Here is a list of 10 such moments where the viewers of the show hated Cersei.

1) Cersei lets Joffrey execute Ned Stark

The execution of Ned Stark ( Sean Bean) was not just an important event in the HBO series Game of Thrones, but it also started a trend and is one of the iconic yet hated events. Although Cersei might not have wanted or ordered the execution herself by not stopping Joffrey she started an array of dangerous events that took place in and around the King’s Landing.


2) She ordered Sansa’s direwolf to be killed

In season 1 of Game of Thrones, Joffrey Baratheon was attacked by Arya Stark’s dire wolf, Nymeria by biting his hand. Cersei was furious and ordered the dire wolf to be captured. However, Arya managed to save Nymeria by chasing her away, so that the guards couldn’t capture her. Cersei then ordered Sansa’s Lady to be killed instead of Nymeria. This scene is one of the earliest moments where fans started hating Cersei for her heartless and cruel decision.


3) Cersei staged Tyrion’s trial

Cersei always hated Tyrion ( Peter Dinklage) and when she got the chance to be blamed for the heinous crime of killing her son, she did everything to have him sentenced to death. She even made Shae, Tyrion’s lover, lie about Tyrion’s plan to kill Joffrey. Cersei was hated for her cruel and vindictive behavior toward her own brother.


4) Missandei’s Trial

One of the most haunting moments from the final season of Game of Thrones was Cersei’s execution of Missandei. While facing Daenerys’ ( Emilia Clarke) army, Cersei makes the most idiotic decision and orders the Mountain to execute Missandei. This decision ultimately destroyed King’s Landing as Daenerys unleashed her dragons and burned everything.


5) Betrayal of the North

In the last season of Game of Thrones, the white walkers were the biggest threat to the people and initially, everyone, including Cersei, agreed to join forces with Daenerys and the north to fight. However, Cersei did not keep her promise and betrayed the North by not sending any of her men to fight. The scene enraged fans and Cersei was hated for her decision.


6) Cersei destroyed the Sept of Baelor

Cersei was called to stand for trial by the High Sparrow. However, she decided to do something more sinister by blowing the whole Sept with wildfire and killing several of her enemies in one go. However, it also eliminated hundreds of innocent people from King’s Landing which made people hate Cersei for her heinous act.


7) Cersei forced Ellaria Sand to watch her daughter die

Cersei wanted to take revenge for her daughter, Myrcella’s death from Ellaria Sand. So, she captured Ellaria and her daughter, Tyene, and then forced her to watch her daughter die from the same poison that killed Myrcella. This act of Cersei was despised by viewers.


8) Cersei and Jaime’s incestuous relationship

One of the most despicable things was Cersei’s relationship with her own twin brother, Jamie Lannister with whom she also had three children. Cersei and Jaime committed many crimes to hide their scandalous relationship which started wars in Westeros.


9) Cersei gave Unella to be tortured by the mountain

While Cersei was imprisoned by the High Sparrow, Septa Unella tortured her in many ways. When she was released after she walked shame, Cersei orchestrated a plan to capture Unella and tortured her the same way. Later, she handed her to the Mountain.


10) Cersei used her teenage cousin

Cersei was capable of going to any lengths to achieve her goals. For example, she lured her young cousin Lancel Lannister to plot and kill her husband Robert Baratheon. She asked him to give strong wine to Robert on his hunting trip which slowed him down and was attacked by a wild boar.
