There is no doubt that Caroline Forbes is one of the best characters in The Vampire Diaries. She is not the lead character she has grabbed the attention of the viewers every time she is on the screen. From being a self-centered teenager to a caring and compassionate vampire, her journey was truly remarkable.

Initially, when we see Caroline she is self-absorbed and her jealousy towards Elena is unlikeable. However, after the turn of events when she ends up as a vampire she becomes a strong and loyal one. Her journey through self-discovery as she goes through numerous challenges be it with her friends and even with her parents, gives hope to others. Caroline is a complex character.

When Tyler Lockwood was going through his first transition of becoming a werewolf, Caroline’s determination to stay by his side was truly memorable. A werewolf’s bite is fatal to a vampire. Caroline knew about how a single bite from Tyler could make her lose her life.

Yet she wanted to stay by his side as the process was excruciating. Tyler struggled through hours of pain. With each passing hour becoming more and more intolerable. As each of his bones broke and reformed to help with the process of transformation, Caroline gave her mental support. 2) Controlling herself after becoming a vampire

In season 2 of The Vampire Diaries, when Caroline is in the car with Tyler, and the Gilbert device is activated to catch the vampires, Tyler is also affected by the device. As the device started Tyler became disoriented and he crashed the car with Caroline in it. Initially, Caroline seemed to be fine, but she was worried about Tyler’s well-being more than herself.

She fell to the ground moments after and lost consciousness. When she was admitted to the hospital the doctors noted that Caroline was in critical condition and all hopes were lost. Elena and Bonnie did not want to lose her so to revive her, Caroline received Vampire blood. However, she was killed by Kathrine with vampire blood in her system which turned her into a vampire. We know how new vampires find it difficult to control themselves.

Caroline, however, wanted with all her heart to not hurt anyone. This resonated with the viewers, as initially, Caroline might have felt superficial but after becoming a vampire she became a good person.

In season 2 of The Vampire Diaries when Maon Lockwood helps Liz attack Damon and Stefan after finding out they were vampires things take an unexpected turn. Elena and Caroline start to search for Damon and Stefan when Caroline hears that they have been attacked. As they come across Mason, Elena inquires about the whereabouts of Stefan and Damon to which Mason denies to answer.

As Caroline threatens Mason he gets a hold of Elena and threatens to kill her. However, he is not aware of Caroline’s strength. Caroline helps Elena to safety and punches Mason making him lose consciousness. Caroline then saves Damon and Stefan from her mom. Even though her mother did not know about her being a vampire, she did not back down from saving her friends. She risked getting exposed to her mother and saved the day.

When Damon attacked Caroline’s father almost killing him in the process, Caroline did not back down from saving her father. She attacked Damon even though she knew Damon was much stronger than she was. Caroline actively intervenes Damon from further harming her father and saves him.

She had a tumultuous relationship with her father but was protective of him. Caroline’s father was hurt and losing blood, Caroline offered him to drink her blood so he could recover quickly. When Jo was getting married to Alaric in season 6 of The Vampire Diaries, Kai returned. Kai stabs Joe and kills her. However, Jo transferred her children to Caroline’s womb so that they live. When Caroline finds out about her pregnancy she is initially shocked but she turns out to be a great mother of the twins. Even though they were not her own she carried them with love and care.

Throughout her pregnancy, she tried everything to keep the children safe. She balanced her supernatural life to suit it better for the kids. As Caroline struggles to survive in the hospital after the accident she is given vampire blood to recover. With the healing power of the vampire blood, she recovered quickly even when the doctors had lost all hope of recovery. However, things take an unexpected turn when Katherine kills her with vampire blood still in her system. She wakes up as a vampire with all the memories coming back to him in a wave.

She starts to remember everything Damon put her through during their time together. She confronts Damon asking him about why he did that to her. Although Damon tried to compel her he understood that Caroline has become a vampire and remembers everything he put her through. This is the first time Caroline stands up for herself against Damon. This scene is one of the best moments of her as we see a strong side of her.

In season 2 of The Vampire Diaries, we see Caroline speaking to her mother about her becoming a vampire. Caroline tells her about her experience and even adds that Bonnie has accepted her. When Liz just stares at her, Caroline understands that it must be a lot for her, but Liz says she likes the new Caroline. Liz says that Caroline does not need to compel her as she will keep her secret.

She could not take the grief she felt as her mother was a significant part of her life. Though they had a strained relationship initially, their relationship grew throughout the series. They bonded over time. She becomes reckless after turning off her humanity and starts doing karaoke making every customer listen to her songs.
