Carl Grimes, played by Chandler Riggs, was one of the most important characters in the zombie apocalypse show The Walking Dead. The series showed Carl change gradually from an innocent child to a survivor. Through his eight-season run in the series, Carl had several moments that made him one of the iconic and missed characters of the show. 1) Carl shoots Walker Shane

At the end of season 2, Carl shoots Walker Shane as he is about to attack his father Rick Grimes ( Andrew Lincoln). Shane takes Rick on the lookout for Randall and tries to kill him as he thinks he is a better leader and father. But Rick shoots him before Shane can do anything to him. However, Shane comes back as a walker and tries to attack Rick when Carl shoots Shane killing him instantly and saving his father’s life.

2) Carl fires the first shot in the fight against saviors and scavengers

In season 7 of The Walking Dead, the scavengers betray the Alexandrians and support Negan and the saviors in the war. As everyone was in their positions and anticipating the start of the battle, Carl fired the first two shots killing two of Negan’s men. This caught Negan off guard and he was almost bitten by walker Sasha.

3) Carl helps Rick defend the prison from a herd of walkers

In season 4 of The Walking Dead, most of the members have caught a deadly infection, and Daryl and Michonne go to bring medicine for them, leaving Rick and Carl alone to stop a huge herd of walkers from overrunning the prison. Even when Rick’s confidence was trembling, Carl supported his father in the perilous task and together they held the defense of the prison until more people arrived to help.

4) Carl’s selfless act to save his group

In the premiere episode of season 7, Negan kills Abraham and Glenn and then picks Carl as the next victim. He asks Rick to cut Carl’s hand off with an axe or he is going to kill everyone in his group. Rick appears visibly shaken by Negan's demand. However, Carl asks Rick to do whatever Negan demands to save their members, showing great courage in the face of adversity.

5) Carl tries to kill Negan

In season 7, Carl hides in a truck that is taking supplies for Negan and the Saviors. As the truck reaches the sanctuary, Carl starts firing, killing two saviors. He warns them to stay away as he only wants Negan because he killed his friends. This iconic moment showed the viewers how brave Carl was and also impressed Negan.

6) Carl shoots his mother so that she doesn’t turn

In season 3, as the group gets separated due to a herd of walkers, Lori Grimes goes into labor. Lori asks Maggie to perform a c-section on her and save the baby. Maggie performs the surgery and gets the baby out but Lori doesn’t make it. In a heart-wrenching scene, Carl decides to shoot Lauri so that she doesn’t turn and become a walker.

In season 4, after the fall of the prison, all the survivors get scattered. Carl and Rick end up together and hide in an abandoned house. The best moment of the episode is when Carl climbs on the roof of a house and finches a bucket of chocolate pudding. It is the only moment after a long time where we see Carl be a normal teenager.
