Why is Katie Thurston paying over $24K for fertility shots before her cancer treatment?
Katie Thurston announced her cancer diagnosis in February and is currently planning on freezing her eggs before undergoing chemotherapy. She got engaged to comedian, Jeff Arcuri in September 2024 and plans to have a family with him.
In her Instagram story, she shared some details of her fertility treatment in which she mentioned that she takes three pills a day to keep her estrogen levels down. She noted that she has to take one shot in the am and two shots in the pm.
She went on to describe how she has to go to the clinic every other day for an ultrasound and blood withdrawal. Speaking of how she feels during the whole process, she said:
''My emotions are crazy. My sleep/dreams are crazy. And I'm tired. My stomach is officially sore from the needles. I believe this weekend will be my first egg retrieval.''

She then also mentioned how she wanted her body to recover from the process before her cancer treatment began in April. In the next story, she explained with an example of how there are chances of successful pregnancies with the egg retrieval process.
In the last story she posted on March 9, she gave a complete cost breakdown of her daily fertility shots. The screenshot posted shows the cost to be $24,349.18, with a discount of $11,337.43 and $11,267.43 is the amount that will be covered by her insurance.
She captioned this story:
''Just one of my daily shots broken down by cost. As someone with breast cancer, a lot of my fertility treatments will be covered in the state of New York.''
