In the summer of 2025, veteran reporter Tom Llamas will replace Lester Holt as the anchor of NBC Nightly News. Reflecting on his vast experience in broadcast media, this transition signals a significant turning point in his life.

He has worked for prominent channels such as ABC News, MSNBC, and NBC. From American issues, natural catastrophes, and overseas conflicts, his coverage has included the spectrum of important events.

Llamas will continue to host "Top Story with Tom Llamas," as well.

Llamas was born on July 2, 1979, in Miami, Florida to Cuban migrants. He attended Belen Jesuit Preparatory School. Earning degrees in broadcast journalism, theater, and speech, he later went to Loyola University in New Orleans.

Starting in 2000, he worked in the NBC News Specials Unit and subsequently at MSNBC. Early on, he concentrated on political and investigative journalism.

He then moved to NBC's WTVJ in Miami before joining WNBC and NBC News in New York as a general assignment reporter and anchor in 2009.

In September 2014, he transitioned to ABC News as a New York-based correspondent and became the Sunday anchor of ABC World News Tonight in 2015. He returned to NBC in 2021, anchoring "Top Story with Tom Llamas" on NBC News NOW and serving as a senior national correspondent.

During the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign, Llamas reported extensively on Republican candidates and gained attention for questioning Donald Trump about his donations to veterans' groups, leading Trump to label him as "sleazy."

Llamas has received multiple awards for his reporting, including several Emmy Awards and two Edward R. Murrow Awards. He is married to Jennifer Llamas, and together they have three children. The family resides in Purchase, New York. As he steps into his new role at "NBC Nightly News," Llamas aims to continue the program's legacy of trust and commitment to the truth.

By early summer of 2025, Tom Llamas will be NBC Nightly News's official anchor and managing editor. He will be following Lester Holt, the incumbent since 2015. This new role will make Llamas among the most well-known news presenters in the country.
