Andrej Lazarov, a midfielder for FC Shkupi, died at the age of 25. The tragedy happened on March 16 when a fire broke out at Club Pulse in Kočani, North Macedonia, during the DNK concert. The tragic incident killed around 59 people. As of now, 155 people have been reported as injured.

According to witnesses and authorities, the fire was instigated by pyrotechnic devices. On the other hand, the club was overcrowded and also lacked safety measures, with a blocked fire exit that didn't let people escape on time. Andrej Lazarov died in the accident while saving and rescuing other people amidst the fire.

The statement was made by his soccer team, FC Shkupi, on Instagram, where they wrote,

"With deep pain and great sorrow, we announce that our footballer, Andrej Lazarov, has been confirmed among the victims of the tragic fire that happened at night in Koçan. Like the heroic spirit he was, Lazarov lost his life trying to help others escape the fire-torn environment. He was poisoned by smoke during his attempts to save lives, showing courage and humanity until the very last moment. His heroic act will always remain in our memories, as a testament to his noble character and his big heart."

After hearing FC Shkupi's statement about the fire tragedy, Andrej Lazarov's fans head over to the football player's Instagram profile to mourn his death and show their respect.

The Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski, also called for the facilities and institutions to help the injured on his X account by stating,

"I call on all relevant institutions—the healthcare services, the police, and local authorities—to take urgent measures to help the injured and support the affected families. The government is fully mobilized and will do everything necessary to deal with the consequences and determine the causes of this tragedy."

Police have arrested about 15 people who are suspected to be responsible for the tragedy, including the club's manager. The government has declared a seven-day mourning period to honor the victims.
