Narayana Johnson, popularly known as River Boy, was a well-known electronic music producer, multi-instrumentalist, and composer who passed away in 2025. Cult Of The Lamb announced the news on April 3, 2025, via a statement released across their social media accounts.
“It's with heavy and broken hearts we have to announce that Narayana Johnson, AKA River Boy, has passed away. It's impossible to describe how much of a void he is leaving at Massive Monster and how much his absence will be felt," said the statement posted on Instagram
The statement further adedd,
"He was more than our Audio Director; he was a creative powerhouse, he was a friend, and he was our silly little guy. From the first note of music to the voice of every single Follower, Narayana is woven into the soul of the Cult of the Lamb. The game and the studio wouldn't be what it is, and won't be the same, without him."
“Narayana would want you to take a moment to look at nature, to touch your feet to the earth. He would want you to listen to his music and remember how much it meant to him to share it with you all. The team needs some space and some kindness in this difficult time. We're a small team, and we're all feeling the loss. Thank you for understanding. Narayana, we are going to miss you so, so much. With love, Massive Monster,” the statement concluded.
Fans took to social media to express their sadness over his passing.

Who was Narayana Johnson?
Narayana Johnson was born in Murwillumbah, New South Wales. His childhood in New South Wales influenced his music, adding a touch of connection to his roots and the natural world to every one of his composed musical pieces.
Johnson was one-half of the musically accomplished group Willow Beats. The duo sold out tours across Australia and garnered millions of fans across streaming platforms. His musical accomplishments also extended to the video games industry, where he served as musical composer and Audio Director.
Before his passing, Narayana Johnson worked as the Audio Director of Massive Monster.
His official website states,
“As Audio Director of Massive Monster, I composed, produced and implemented the award winning music of Cult of the Lamb. I also worked on VO (recording most of the voices myself), recorded and implemented atmospheres and worked on many of the SFX."
His website also describes his work as a composer and producer for Unicycle Giraffe.
“I composed/produced the music for the game Unicycle Giraffe. The music has a repeated motif which nods to a “try try again” attitude. The chord progression, soaring melodies and relentless drums aim to capture the feeling of determination against all odds. Game development and art by Julian Wilton.”
