Sean "Diddy" Combs is fighting back against attorney Tony Buzbee. He has accused him of improperly filing lawsuits in a federal district where he is not authorized to practice. Now, Diddy’s legal team is asking a judge to put a stop to Buzbee’s involvement in the cases.

Tony Buzbee is a high-profile Texas-based attorney. He has represented clients in major lawsuits. This includes sexual misconduct allegations against NFL quarterback Deshaun Watson and lawsuits related to the Astroworld Festival tragedy.

Over the past several months, Tony Buzbee has been filing civil lawsuits against Diddy on behalf of multiple anonymous plaintiffs who have accused Diddy of sexual assault and other serious offenses.

Diddy’s legal team is now arguing that he has no legal standing to represent clients in the Southern District of New York (SDNY), where many of these lawsuits have been filed. Per Vibe, the filing states,

"In our collective decades of practice, undersigned counsel have never opposed a pro hac vice application, and we do not do so lightly here. But Buzbee’s egregious misconduct warrants denial of the privilege of appearing in this district."

It also adds,

"For nearly five months, Buzbee has filed case after case in this district against (Combs) in the name of anonymous plaintiffs without seeking admission of any kind and without disclosing his lack of admission."

Diddy’s legal team calls out Tony Buzbee for "egregious misconduct"

According to court documents, Tony has filed at least 22 lawsuits against Diddy in the SDNY without first obtaining approval to practice in that jurisdiction, TMZ reports. Diddy’s attorneys claim that this move is a violation of court rules.

Typically, when an attorney is not licensed to practice in a particular district, they have to apply for pro hac vice admission. This is a legal process that allows them to handle a case in that specific court.

However, Diddy’s team argues that Tony either failed to follow this procedure or went ahead with filings before receiving proper authorization.

Tony Buzbee had previously applied for admission in the SDNY but was denied on February 13, 2025, by the Committee on Grievances.

Diddy’s attorneys are now urging the court to reject Buzbee’s pro hac vice application altogether, claiming that his conduct is “egregious misconduct” and that he has engaged in a pattern of unethical behavior.

Tony Buzbee denies any wrongdoing

In response to reports that Tony was “barred” from practicing in New York, he took to Instagram to share a 2019 certification confirming his legal status in the state, captioning,

"I receive many press inquiries and make no effort to respond to most. I prefer rather to make a one-time general statement and let the various entities use that statement as they see fit. Over the past week, I’ve gotten multiple inquiries from friends and colleagues expressing concern and asking why I have been “barred” from practicing law in New York State and offering their assistance."

He also adds,

"I myself have seen several press agencies, some borderline legitimate, reporting that same trash. Let me be clear. I’m licensed to practice law in New York. I’m in good standing with the state bar and have always been. Although I prefer Texas, I’m proud of the legal work we are doing in New York."

However, the key issue is not whether Tony Buzbee is licensed in New York state, but whether he is authorized to practice in the federal SDNY court, where the lawsuits have been filed. If he is granted pro hac vice admission, the lawsuits will continue as planned, and Diddy will have to fight the allegations in both criminal and civil court.
