Instagram launched a new app named 'Edits' on April 22. In the introductory blog, Instagram wrote:

"We're launching Edits, a new video creation app designed for creators. Instagram exists to help people express their creativity, and we want to build the best creative tools to help you do this, not just on Instagram or Facebook, but on any platform. This is only the first step on this journey, and we can't wait to evolve and improve Edits with your feedback."

The company is also planning to add keyframes, transformation styles using AI, collaboration features, effects, fonts, and other attributes to the video editing app in the future.

After Instagram announced Edits, the news quickly went viral on social media, with both media outlets and Instagram accounts covering the launch. A pop culture update account on X (formerly Twitter), @PopBase, also covered the news.

The post didn't take long to capture the attention of internet users, who further added their honest reactions and opinions in the comments. Let's have a look at them.

A user, @illicitaura, wrote,

"They’re just copying CapCut"

Another user, @EmperorDeone, added,

"It feels like they're just fragmenting their core features and forcing us to download even more apps. Capcut about to have a competitor"

One more user, @Lpool_5843, posted,

"So this is their attempt at being an alternative version of CapCut? The way Reels were meant to be an alternative version of TikTok too??? Ok..."

Another user, @web3danaaa, wrote,

"Instagram saw CapCut and TikTok and said, “yo what if… we reinvent the wheel, but make it shiny?” 💀 Let’s see if Edits actually eats or just vibes in beta forever."

A user, @thewindriah, commented,

"doing anything but showing who you’re following that’s not following you…"

Another user, @JamesMulamb, added,

"Oh nice glad they have their own editing app"

One more user, @D1AZx, wrote,

"why are they becoming Hulu? just make it one app…what’s next captions?"

The comment section got a mixed reaction from the internet users. While some people were happy that Instagram launched its own editing app and said it was a good idea, others were not impressed and felt Instagram was reportedly copying CapCut. A few users even joked about the news, with one saying Instagram was trying to reinvent the wheel by making something that already exists.

Edits, Instagram's video-creating app, is now available on the Google Play Store and App Store for free. Instagram users can sign up for the app by using their Instagram account.
