Kanye West's new X post talks of 'that boy from Lincoln Park' being 'killed,' and many on social media have been quick to speculate that he meant Chester Bennington, the late singer of the rock band Linkin Park.
Ye's X post, incidentally, comes amidst his ongoing controversy with Kim Kardashian, which started with the rapper using their daughter North's vocals in the song Lonely Roads Still Go To Sunshine on March 16.
The song was uploaded without Kim's permission, for which she is reportedly considering taking legal action to gain full custody of her children. Since then, Kanye has made multiple statements regarding his own rights and his children.
The rapper's X post on March 19 said:
"It’s time to go get my children from the situation everyone knows their in They killed that boy from Lincoln Park for this but I’m not letting my children be in this anymore I will be dead before my kids be in Sierra Canyon in September."

While Kanye wrote the band name as Lincoln Park in his X post, some fans were soon guessing that the rapper meant the late lead vocalist of Linkin Park, who committed suicide in 2017.
One user added on X:
"Wait you mean Chester? The lead singer of Lincoln Park?"
Another user expressed frustration by writing:
"It's Chester Bennington. A grown man. And it's Linkin Park. Get it right. 🙄"
Chester Bennington spoke of depression and life struggles

Ye's recent X post has brought back the focus on Chester Bennington's death. Chester was reported to have died by suicide on July 20, 2017.
The singer had given an interview in which he expressed his feelings. In the interview, uploaded on YouTube by Alex Hefner, Bennington said:
"Life got really weird and really hard all at one time. It was like one of our friends died of cancer, my stepdad died of cancer, and I was like drinking again; all my relationships were struggling; everything was struggling. I was burnt out because I was just like, Fu*k the world."
He added,
"I even told one of my therapists at one point, I just don't want to feel anything. I kind of envy sociopaths because they don't have to worry about their feelings sh*t. I kind of want that. And she's like you mean you don't want to be human being and I was like yep that's what I want."
Chester Bennington has openly talked about clinical depression in his past interviews. The singer was a very close friend of Chris Cornell, the member of Soundgarden, who died on May 18, 2017, by suicide. Chester died the same year on Chris Cornell's birthday — July 20 — which led many fans to believe his grief was connected with Cornell's death. However, Chester's family never gave any statement on the same.

Just before Chester's death, the band released an album, One More Light, which had many emotional songs, including Heavy, Talking to Myself, and One More Light, which talked about depression. The band stopped making music afterwards until 2024, when they returned with a new vocalist, Emily Armstrong.
Mike Shinoda, a member of Linkin Park, also gave an interview after Bennington's death. In the interview, he said:
"It just felt too much. To get back on it (music) and try and do some version of music and also be seen through the lens of what had happened for that to be attached. It was like being a member of a club that I didn't want to join."
Linkin Park returned in 2024 with the new album From Zero, featuring Emily Armstrong as the new vocalist and Colin Brittain as the new drummer. The band won the iHeartRadio Music Awards 2025 for Rock Album Of The Year.
