Young Thug completed a criminal trial in October 2024 for crimes committed with the YSL gang, including murder and drug dealing, after which he pleaded guilty. Jeffery Williams, also known as Young Thug, was sentenced to 40 years, having already served 5 years in jail. Of the remaining 35 years, 20 years were suspended pending violation of probation, leaving him with 15 years of probation. This allowed him to be free but under strict protocols.
On April 3, 2025, Fulton County prosecutors filed a motion to revoke his probation. According to the prosecutors, the rapper uploaded a now-deleted post about a police investigator, Marissa Viverito, in which he called her a liar. The report also indicated that threats were made against District Attorney Fani Willis.
The prosecutors' motion to the Fulton County Superior Court stated,
"The Defendant has demonstrated a blatant disregard for the law, the safety of witnesses, and the integrity of judicial proceedings. The State submits that the Defendant’s continued presence in the community under probationary supervision presents a clear and present danger to public safety and undermines the rule of law."
Young Thug denies making threats amidst the ongoing legal case
After the prosecutors filed the motion to revoke his probation, the rapper denied the statement by tweeting,
"I don’t make treats to people I’m a good person, I would never condone anyone threatening anyone or definitely participate in threatening anyone. I’m all about peace and love"
According to the rapper, he never threatened people, and the statements made about him are false. As per WSB-TV, Brian Steel, the rapper's attorney, also stated the same, saying,
"The prosecution’s motion to revoke Jeffery’s probation should not be well-received and should be swiftly rejected. It is irresponsible to file a motion of this sort when Jeffery has done absolutely nothing to violate any condition of probation or threaten a witness."
Young Thug and his attorney, Brian Steel, have both denied the prosecution's claims regarding his social media posts. This has led fans to speculate on whether his probation will be revoked.
If Young Thug's probation is revoked, he will return to jail to serve the remaining 20 years of his 40-year sentence. No decision has been reached, as the hearing date is still pending.
Young Thug is set to perform at the Summer Smash Festival, which takes place from June 20 to June 22. The rapper is the main headliner for the third day (June 22). The prosecutors' motion casts uncertainty on whether he will perform at the festival.
