Guy Pearce and Kevin Spacey seem to be at odds with each other. During an episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, Pearce spoke of his unpleasant experience working with Spacey on the set of L.A. Confidential. Spacey has now responded to Pearce's statements.
Pearce said despite being a victim to some extent, he did not call himself one as did not face any physical or s*xual harassment. Speaking of Spacey, he said:
“I was sort of scared of Kevin because he's quite an aggressive man. He's extremely charming and brilliant at what he does, really impressive, etc. But I was young and susceptible, and he targeted me, no question.”
On February 19, 2025, Kevin Spacey shared a self-recorded video in which he clarified his position based on Pearce’s statements. The video was captioned:
“Grow up, Guy Pearce. You are not a victim.”
Spacey mentioned that they have worked together for a long time, and if Pearce was upset about something he did, he should have contacted him directly. The actor added the press was after him for a response. Spacey said:
“Grow up. Did you also, by the way, tell the press that a year after we shot LA confidential, you flew to Savannah, Georgia, while I was shooting Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil just to spend time with me? I mean did you tell the press that, too? Or just that not fit into the victim narrative you have going?”
Kevin Spacey apologized to Guy Pearce saying he didn’t get the message that The Time Machine actor didn’t like spending time with him.
Kevin Spacey said he was willing to have an open conversation with Guy Pearce
Spacey questioned the timing of the accusations, wondering why they had not surfaced for nearly three decades. He suggested that if there had been any wrongdoing, it didn't make sense for the accuser to have led him on back then.
He also implied that the accuser was trying to portray him as a villain just as he was attempting to rebuild his life. Kevin Spacey suggested that Guy Pearce have an open conversation anytime, even live on X, insisting he had nothing to hide. He ended by telling Pearce to be mature, asserting that he was not a victim.
During the Awards Chatter podcast, Guy Pearce mentioned telling his then-wife that he felt safe with Simon Baker on the set, alleging that Spacey would focus on Baker and not him. He mentioned confronting Spacey, which did not turn out well.
In October 2017, as the #MeToo movement gained momentum in Hollywood, Anthony Rapp accused Kevin Spacey of making inappropriate advances toward him at a New York party in 1986 when he was 14. Rapp later filed a lawsuit, but the court ruled in Spacey’s favor.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, after Rapp’s claims, more allegations surfaced from various locations, including film sets and the Old Vic Theatre, where Kevin Spacey had been the artistic director.
Guy Pearce received the news while in London. Overcome with emotion, he broke down in tears and couldn’t stop. He reflected on how he had previously dismissed or suppressed his own experiences, describing the moment as a powerful realization of the situation’s true impact.
