On March 6, 2025, ABC News published an exclusive jailhouse interview with suspect Duane 'Keffe D' Davis, about the Tupac Shakur murder. During the interview, Keffe D (also referred to as Keefe D) broke his silence since his arrest in 2023 for the murder, claiming he was innocent.

Davis was charged with rapper Tupac Shukar’s murder in 1996, the only person arrested for the crime. Davis was originally arrested in September 2023 and this is the first interview he has given since then. The hour-long interview was conducted in Clark County Detention Center by ABC News. Davis' exact words in the interview are:

“I’m innocent. I ain’t killed nobody, never did ever kill nobody.”

He described himself as a 'good man' who quit selling drugs. Referring to the prosecutors and police, Duane Davis said:

"I did everything they asked me to do. Get new friends. Stop selling drugs. I stopped all that."

Davis stated that he deserved to remain at home, watching his grandchildren grow and and tending to his garden. He claimed that he is compelled to stand trial in an almost 30-year-old case that lacks substantial proof.

"I'm supposed to be out there enjoying my twilight at one of my f------ grandson's football games, and basketball games. Enjoying life with my kids."

As a result of his suspected involvement in Shakur's gunshot death, Davis was indicted with first-degree murder. His arrest in September 2023 was followed by a trial without bail when he filed a not guilty plea.

More about Tupac Shakur's murder and suspect Duane 'Keffe D' Davis' involvement

Davis was arrested for being the mastermind behind the night drive-by shooting of rap sensation Tupac Shakur that happened, according to Wikipedia, in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996.

As they were on their way from Mike Tyson's battle with Bruce Seldon, Tupac Shakur was shot while riding shotgun in a BMW. Shakur was sitting alongside record executive Marion 'Suge' Knight, who drove the car.

Although he was rushed to the hospital, Tupac Shakur succumbed to his wounds six days later. Despite taking place on the busy streets of Paradise, Nevada, the murder remained unsolved for over three decades due to lack of information.

Davis gave his version of events in numerous interviews with the police and in media appearances prior to his arrest, and also reportedly wrote a self-published memoir under his own name in 2019, which, according to ABC News, helped the police in Las Vegas piece together the murder. The prosecution relied heavily on Davis' prior statements to concluide that he was involved in the murder of the rapper.

Davis' account of events was supported by investigators for years through evidence and other accounts, and the case is now scheduled to be submitted to a jury in eleven months' time.

In the latest interview, Duane Davis has reportedly claimed that he did not write and has not even seen his own memoir. Therefore, according to him, those admissions aren't worth anything.
