On February 20, 2025, Anthony Ricco announced that he would no longer represent embattled music mogul, Sean Combs, aka P. Diddy. Anthony Ricco, a defense lawyer renowned for handling notorious cases, joined Diddy’s defense team in September 2024.
In a statement obtained by the Daily Mail, on February 21, 2025, the hotshot lawyer filed a motion for withdrawal of counsel. Ricco, who had been working closely with Mark Agnifilio, Diddy’s lead counsel, revealed that he had notified Agnifilio of his decision to leave the defense team.
A part of Ricco’s statement read:
“On September 22, 2024, I was retained by the defendant, Sean Combs, to serve as his counsel, and I have served as his counsel since that time. Although I have provided Sean Combs with the high level of legal representation expected by the court, under no circumstances can I continue to effectively serve as counsel for Sean Combs. There are sufficient reasons (related to the protections afforded by the attorney/client privilege) for brevity in my application for withdrawal as counsel in this case,”
Sean Combs is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, on charges of racketeering conspiracy, s*x trafficking, and transporting to engage in prostitution. He goes to trial on May 5, 2025.
